I was wondering if anyone here knows how much the queen arabesque are going for now on the market. I'm going to pick some up at a discount price of $60 per fish for 2 inch. Is this worth it?

    Hi all,
That actually sounds so cheap I would make sure I'd seen the actual fish before any money changed hands. They are on the IBAMA list of Hypancistrus spp. that can't be exported from Brazil legally. In the UK they are nearly unobtainable at the moment with hobbiest selling their tank bred sub-adults for a lot of money. If you had an adult female for sale you would be looking at H. zebra prices.

On another level they are one of the most attractive Hypancistrus sp., but not the easiest one to care for. They really need a dedicated tank and the males can be quite aggressive.

Your best chance of getting a market value for them would be to join a specialist catfish web site, "Planet Catfish" would be my choice, but "Plecoplanet" also has USA members.

    cheers Darrel

    Hey Darrel,
Thanks for the feed back. Yeah I've seen these guys a few times from a pet shop I go to a lot and the Guy is willing to give it to me at a discount since I asked for the small group that he has. They look small but I would say 2 at almost 2 inch and 1 at a bit over 2. Well that made my decision I will reserve them but still need a closer look to make sure they are not the l066 KT. Thanks again.

At that size they are probably F1 juveniles, if so that price is within reason. Just make certain that they are indeed 260 and not 411. As previously stated it would be a good idea to join a specialty catfish forum such as http://www.plecoworld.org
The only problem could be if they are all from the same batch they could be brother and sister; if you plan on spawning them that would be bad...
