Hi Everyone,

I wanted to get your feedback on adding Off Topic sub-forums for miscellaneous threads and discussions that wouldn't really fit under any of our existing sub-forum headings. I know the forum is very dialed in on Apistos and there isn't much chatter beyond that but I also thought it might be helpful to have other options. It might also help some of our lurkers (people who read but don't post) to join the discussion!
Anyway, let me know what you all think. There is no wrong answer, I'm just curious as to what the community-at-large would think about this type of addition.

Thanks in advance!

Josh

Hi Josh, we already have a lounge section that i though was for non Apisto talk?

At the end of the day this is a very specialised forum and the best(and only) Apistogramma dedicated forum. You have all the worlds top experts as members and a regular and loyal user base. Anyone looking for info on Apistos visits here first.

You dont have a lot to gain by catering to other types of hobbiests and a lot to loose(the forum becoming just another run of the mill fishkeeping forum!) I say leave it exactly as it is..

Thank you for the feedback! I understand what you're saying and I definitely do not want to dilute all the great apistogramma information contained in the forum and the collection of members we have here. I do, however, want to make improvements that will encourage more apisto-related discussion and activity and I would like to hear more ideas on how we can make that happen...

As a beginner, I would love to see the FAQ section be filled up. When I use google to search for basic and general questions I run into a lot of different information. However, I put more trust in the members of this forum since they have real experience. Most general questions have been asked already but it's not always easy to find them using the search function, for instance because the title of the thread doesn't always cover the actual content.

If the FAQ section would be filled up with general and basic questions (on e.g. water parameters, hatching artemia, breeding tank size, lowering pH etc.) this would be great for beginners to browse through. Especially since everyone can post their experiences, so that you don't get single answers but basically a wider range of options that have worked for other people. The only problem is that it would require someone knowledgeable to monitor what's a good FAQ and index it and I guess that would involve some work...

Great suggestion Raymond, I just added a new thread in the FAQ subforum so people can nominate the thread they think are worthy of being part of our "Best Of"/FAQ subforum. I'm hoping this will be a great one-stop resource for all newcomers.
