I have just set up a 55G planted tank and I wish to keep apisto cacatuoides, agassisi and maybe pulchra....are these species compatible and will they leave my plants alone? I am rather hoping they will breed at some stage so could I have say 2 males and 1 female of each species in this tank?

any information would be very much appreciated please.

Neil.

Can it be done? Yes. Can you identify to which species juvinile species belong? Maybe. Will you be able to separate A. agassizii females from A. pulchra females? Unlikely for most people.

what do you mean by separate?....I wouldn't be able to tell the two females of the species apart?

I was actually more concerned about aggression between the 3 species I mentioned?

Most aggression will probably be between the 2 agassizii-group species. My guess is that 9 out of 10 hobbyists cannot tell the difference between A. agassizii and A. pulchra females. Juveniles are even more difficult. Please don't feel that I'm 'knocking' you. I had one of the best breeders in the US mix up young adults sent to me because they were in a mixed species grow-out tank.
