Greetings. AquaRadio.net is proud to announce that Mr. Ken Kennedy, renowned Angelfish breeder and the person responsible for bringing the Blue Angelfish into the hobby, will be this week's guest speaker on "Sounds Fishy to Me."

Kenneth S. Kennedy began breeding and raising freshwater tropical fish as a hobby in high school. His dad, F. Earl Kennedy, was the first exporter of marine fish from the Philippines. Ken grew up surrounded by fish. His parents also got involved in aquaculture. They put up a Tiger Prawn hatchery in their backyard in Manila and Ken spawned and raised fry in commercial quantities during his school breaks. He then travelled to the US for his college education. He got a Biology degree from the University of Oregon, where his mom also studied.

In addition to his college education, he has training in Marine Finfish Hatchery/Nursery and Fish Health Management from the Southeast Asian Fisheries Development Center, in the Philippines.

After graduating from college, he returned to the Philippines. He proposed and helped build a community based adventure tourism project, the Ugong Rock Spelunking and Summit View Deck, for the community of Barangay Tagabinet in Peurto Princesa. Barangay Tagabinet is within the Peurto Princesa Subterranean River National Park UNESCO World Heritage Site. The project was actually funded by UNESCO-UNDP and was finished in 2001.

In early 2001, before Ugong Rock was finished, Ken returned to Manila and started keeping fish again. Breeding and raising angelfish was an on and off thing and it was not something he thought he would get seriously involved in until he joined an angelfish forum. The rest, as they say, is history.

Ken will be discussing the development of new Angelfish varieties based on crosses of the platinum Angelfish, including the widefin and threadfin Angelfish. This is an in-depth, 3 part broadcast presentation covering all aspects of the development of the Blue Angelfish.
