Hi, new to this forum!

I've had my betta for about a month now, and he's my first tropical fish that requires a heater! I had gouramis and angel fish when I lived in Fiji.
Besides the point.
I just did a water change and added new substrate (black fluorite by sea chem) and it got superrrr cloudy. I have him in a sizeable jug that's floating in the tank so he doesn't get temperature shock. But he seems to be a bit stressed as he's jumping. I feel as though the water is to cloudy and I have my filter on.
What do I do?
I don't want to do water changes as I don't want to get rid of his previous tank water that is already mixed in with new treated tank water.
Thanks!

Besides the fact, that this is a specialist forum for cichlids and not for bettas (Maybe people on Fishlore.com will be better prepared to help.), here's a bit of first aid:

You never do something wrong with waterchanges (make sure it's dechlorinated and has the right temperature), and let the fish back into its tank. If the tank is cycled, 99% of the beneficial bacteria are in the filtermedia, the substrate (well, right now not so much there) and on surfaces, but not in the water itself. The cloudiness should be gone with or without filtration by tomorrow. It's just a visual problem, there is nothing bad about a bit of cloudy water from new substrate.
