Hi all,
I kept 7 female A. cacatuoides with one male, and they all spawned and raised fry. My suspicion would be that even 7 isn't the limit, but I ran out of floor space at that point. One thing I noticed was that you didn't get as much fry stealing with 4 or more females as I did with 2 or 3. The only number of females I've found that is a "bad" number is 2. I also found that, in this sort of tank, that when the surviving fry became sub-adult and sexable, the dominant male tended to leave the adolescent males alone.

If I was to try it again I'd probably try A. trifasciata as they are strongly haremic, the males are hard on the females, and they are physically a little smaller than A. cacatuoides.

cheers Darrel
