Hello. Great to be back on this forum.
I currently have a 6 gallon established fish tank. I used to keep one apisto cacatuoides in there, but now I want to keep some cichlid that has a really interesting behavior and maybe smarter than that fish.
I would like someone not shy.
If anyone has any ideas for such a setup, please let me know. Thank you.

If you have a 6 gal tank and want to keep just one fish I would recommend Betta splendens. A single Apisto in a tiny tank will never display any interesting behaviour.

Thank you

Thank you for an advice. However I used to keep betta, and they did not seem too intelligent. Apistos are certainly more fun. On a side not, how about julidochromis? What about them?
Please provide as many suggestions as possible.

dimitry, if you haven't kept borelli's before, i can tell you they are a fine choice for your tank. a pair or even a trio would do well in that tank. big al's at steeles and yonge had some very nice borelli opals, and i got some. i have some fresh eggs in tapwater now, i hope i get some fish from them. if so, and you can wait, i think i owe you some fish don't i?

Thanks

Thank you Rich. You don't owe me anything ;)

I am not sure there would be such a huge difference between cacatuoides and borelli's behavior.. Maybe something else... :)

borelli's are much smaller and would therefore go fine in that small tank. they are more active and are also more interactive with the keeper ime. if you want a nice display a fish that is small, that will be able to be kept in a pair would be the best imo. otherwise a single fish in a 6 gal would not be what you are looking for imo. rams are very nice, have you ever kept them? a pair of rams may do fine in that tank.
