Feeding fry - how often?

Hi! This is a question about how often to feed apisto fry.

The normal routine for me is to feed in the morning before work, then after work and just before light goes out in the evening, that is 3 times a day total. Now I happen to be working from home for some time, and have the possibility to feed more frequent.

How often should i feed now, since i have the time for it?

What are positive or negative things to expect. I mean for instance overfeeding or rapid growth or too rapid growth etc. Please share your experiences.

Regards / Chris

three times a day is about what I feed fry at first. I usually don't feed them any more than that. I've heard that overfeeding leads to rapid growth along with higher temps and this leads to shorter lifespan.

For my own apisto fries, i usually feed them 2-3 times, and at most 4 times in smaller quantity every day.

Apistt_ed is very right that over-feeding, together with high-temperature,
will speed up the growth of the fish but does more harm than good:
1. The fish will look bad: e.g., too fat, and the colour is NOT as sharp as the normal grown ones.
2. The chance of having "a male fish which looks like a female fish, or
a female fish which looks like a male fish" is higher.
3. The fish will have a shorter lifespan.

Thanks for the answers. I guess that I will keep my three times a day feeding routine.

I have seen this too rapid growth on some fish in my LFS, but I always thought that it was more a result of what they were eating, not so much how often they where fed.

The signs I relate to "broiler" apistogramma are too fat fish and that the fish does not show color, when they reach the size you would expect them to show color.

Regards / Chris
