Vielfleck is considered a color morph of A. sp. Xingu. Populations appear to vary in the numbers of dark spots on the flanks and head, and the length of the red stripe in the dorsal fin. Your fish has fewer spots than the original Vielfleck morph, but more than on the A. sp. aff. Peixoto morph. It looks more like the Samaúma morph.

So still a vielfleck but different catch location ? The male is an f1 from a shipment that came into the u.k via rare aquatics but I recently received info that there may have been a different morph that came in with them so wanted to double check but thanks for your reply mike

You can call them Vielfleck, sp. aff. Peixoto, Samaúa, Amapa-Guttata, Brazil-Guttata, Pineapple or Xingu. These are all names used in the past for the same species. Since it hasn't been described scientifically, there is no official name. I use A. sp. Xingu for the species because it is the original name used when the species was introduced to the hobby. In my opinion, your male is not A. sp. Xingu Vielfleck morph and I would be disappointed if I bought a fish labeled "Vielfleck" and it was not the Vielfleck morph. I guess that is why I rarely by apistos sight unseen.

the only problem ive got now is i got a czech female and another female from a breeder as i lost my female to this male suddenly one morning and now both females want to kill this male and after watching dr.uwe romers presentation at the bca convention i think ive got females from different locations as dr.romer said the females know there mates (same location) and wont breed with males from different locations or different morphs and that is now the problem i face as which is why my male has never spawned with the czech female and now this female ... in the past ive never had a problem with aggression or breeding them

This may sometimes be true, but not always. Otherwise we wouldn't have many of the domestic color morphs of A. hongsloi & A. macmasteri, not to mention A. agassizii. Many species will crossbreed if given no other option. "Any port in a storm" as the saying goes.
