Apistogramma trifasciata couple + cac female

Hello

Recently my male cac died, leaving behind his widow. I tried to find a replacement for her, but was not able to find any (decent) cacs.

My wife spotted a A. trifasciata pair, fell in love with them and we ended up with them in the same 50 gallon tank with the remaining female cac (and other community fish).

Curious as to whether there is any possibility of the cac and triasciata forming a family. Or will they end up in bloodshed? Should have researched this first, of course, but I blame the wife. Anyway, I can isolate the cac if need be.

Thanks!

Well, I found another male cac for my female.

As soon as I introduced the male cac into the tank, the male trifasciata became aggressive, especially when the male cac decided to call a particular cave his home - even to the point of entering the cave and having a bit of tussle inside

they've been flaring at each other and chasing/shoving each other

do you think this will be temporary and things will settle down, bearing in mind this is a 50 gallon tank, and has sufficient plants, driftwood, rocks and caves to theoretically keep them out of each other's way?

or should i separately them immediately?

thanks!

The male trifasciata considers the entire tank his territory. The agression should drop when they decide on boundaries. If it continues for more than a week, you might want to consider rearranging the aquascaping.
