I got some A. sp. "Schwarzkehl/Black-throat" from Steve1572 a few weeks ago, and they are marvellous!

After settling in, the male immediately tried to make himself attractive for the female.

After a while, the female showed a blackish throat:

and after a few days more, her throat became completely black:

and she showed me her brood  :

Thank you, Steve!

Looking great Tom. It's difficult to see, but does the male have an extended dorsal extensions in the front? Just curious.

I think you are thinking of the wrong species. These are not Schwarzkinn/Black-chin (cacatuoides-group). These are Schwarzkehl/Black-throat (macmasteri-group), the species labeled "A. viejita Color Form III" in Linke & Staeck's book.

Of course, Ricardo, don't you?
How are your A. borellii doing?

I would say slightly extended:

Their original address is between Villavicencio and Restrepo, Colombia
Let's eventually take this by pm or email....

Quite amazing to observe how she played "hard to get", no matter how hard he tried. Even when he "lifted" her up, she totally ignored him:

What are the diagnostic features of this fish against A.macmasteri outside of broodcare? in the last picture these to me look just like the wild A.macmasteri i have just imported!

Hi Steve,

do you have these Fishes anymore? Can you show the male?

We search for these fishes since "many" years, how can we get a few from them? :)

hey at all,

nice to meet you andy

I´m a part of the German group which is searching for a.viejita since a long time. There´s no way to get these fishes on the German market. The German market offers a lot of fishes which named as "A.viejita".

Unfortunately, all of these fishes are macs! Mostly in a special breeded color with a lot of red or orange parts.

It would be great to get a group of the "real" species to breed and arrange them in Germany.

Hello Ste,

I.Koslowski actually considered the A. sp. "Schwarzkehl/Black-throat" to be A. viejita back in 1980! He reconsidered later.....

Some features:
- Compared to wild A.macmasteri, A. sp. "Schwarzkehl/Black-throat" has a more elongated body shape.
- It has a narrow zigzag-like lateral band without distinct flank spots, while A. macmasteri has a zigzag-like lateral band only in the posterior part)
- abdominal stripes missing
- Colors are different: dorsal fin is bluish in the spiny region and edged in red in the soft rayed part. The back is olive colored, the abdomen whitish.
- Dorsal and anal fin tips usually longer than on wild A. macmasteri on adult specimens
- Of course the females' black throat is very special, when breeding.

It would be nice if this is actually the fish you've got!
This species was collected, in 1982 and 1992 , between Villavicencio and Restrepo. This is exactly where the type series of A. macmasteri comes from (it is no longer found there).
It is therefor not unlikely that collectors believe that they have collected A. macmasteri, and sell their fish under this name, when they've been collecting at this location.

Hope to see you soon!

Well, no need for a message. Steve has now confirmed that he has a lot of young ones. The only other source for this species, other than me, that I know of, could be the person who put lots of pictures in this thread on the BCA-forum.

I suppose you know that A. sp. "Schwarzkehl/Black-throat" is closely related to, but not the same species, as A. viejita?
