While taking a few pics in the fishroom today i noticed something not quite right in the tank containing my young pair of A sp. Abacaxis.. I thought the female was a fair way off breeding but shes proved me wrong and spawned today. These fish are extreamly difficult to source so im delighted to get a early success. Of course there is lots of hard work to come but pleasing to have this nice spawning.

Congratulations! Your fish look awesome. I hope you get as much fry as possible to adulthood..

Abacaxis is my dream species. One day I will keep them too. First I have to find some. It is impossible to find in my homeland. So, I will have to keep an eye on central europe and keep dreaming of them till then..

Regards;

Thanks Burak, surely you have some serious South American hobbiests in your country??? is there no one in your country importing fish direct from South America or Germany? We dont have many in the UK but are lucky enough to a handful of specialist dealers willing to bring in nice fish plus a few serious hobbiests who can order direct.

My fish were imported direct from Brazil by a specialist retailer but any shop that deals with the German wholesaler Glasers could of bought these fish in, they have been on the list for the last month or so along with wild Diploteania, mendezi, pausquamis... I can order from Glasers but didnt have the money spare to bring in boxes of any of these species, they are very expensive, even at wholesale prices!! Thats why they dont appear in shops.

My pair of abacaxis(Or maybe they should be labeled as A.sf.pulchra (marimari) ??? were a expensive pair considering their size but were worth every penny!! really enjoying them and they keep looking better and better.
