A. commbrae group, perhaps the "enigmatic" A. pleurotaenia?

These fish were bought in Bahía Blanca, 650 km to the south of Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Are you certain that they were collected near Bahía Blanca? Could they only have been exported from there? 650 km/400 mi. south of Buenos Aires? I do not know of any Apistogramma living in waters so far south!

Your fish certainly is not A. pleurotaenia. Your fish is a member of the commbrae-complex (note the large caudal patch made from the caudal spot and part of vertical Bar 7). A. pleurotaenia does not have a large caudal patch, only a smaller caudal spot. I see no abdominal stripes on your fish. This is typical for A. inconspicua, but this species is not found anywhere but Bolivia. It could be A. commbrae, which is found around Buenos Aires, but it usually shows abdomianl stripes. I wish to see larger pictures of only the fish (not the background). This will help accurately identify this fish.

Not collected, bought.

We are trying to find out the origin place, but I think that is an A. commbrae by geographic and commercial distribution.

We have asked for more photos.
