Picked up some juvies at an LFS. They were only labelled "agassizi" (which usually means sp. Steel Blue) & they grew into these beauties. Are they the Flamenco/RioTigre morph? RSCN1229.JPG

Hi all,
I've got some very similar ones, that I bought from an ordinary LFS in the UK about 18 months ago.

They were a Czech import and all the males from the first spawning are similarly coloured and marked, suggesting that it is a line bred colour form.

I think if it was a wild form you would get polychromatic variation in colour and marking.

cheers Darrel

I agree with Darrel on this. Looks like a domestic strain. Flamencos are almost always exported/sold as Flamencos because they command a higher price that way.

Very nice to get to know this wonderful species. Thank you very much for the information and introduction. I think we can see only the images of these fish in Turkey...

Thanks for the info. Whatever their origin I was blown away by the males when they colored up. I wasn't familiar with any agassizi strains that have violet ventrals with orange tips. LOTS of sneaker males, though.
