I have a pretty general question about the breeding behavior of this species in particular. I’m new to keeping them and the pair i have although very new (a week in the tank) the female wants to breed badly. Though for whatever reason the male seems to almost avoid her completely uninterested. Is this species particularly picky about mates? I’ve never seen a male uninterested only females. Thanks!

The male might be quite young. Otherwise nothing you won't see in other species as well.

Give them time. FYI, males can be very aggressive toward females not ready to breed, unlike yours. Most apisto keepers suggest keeping them as 1 male to at least 2 females in a decent size tank.
