They regularly display to one another, and follow one another into caves, but the "female" is large and while it will lighten had never shown any shift to yellow.
They seem to have answered my question for me. The female, while still not yellow has lightened somewhat in colour and laid eggs in a cariniana pod. She's showing some aggression toward the green neons that share the tank, but far less than I've seen in other apistos. The male's behaviour has barely changed at all.
