    SA Themed Riparium

Gratz skoram, looks great! The aeroponic setup is definitely the way to go, since you can pretty much grow any plant in this manner. Could you explain the light setup? It looks a bit like my own, high output LED's on heatsinks.

His father is the alpha of the tank. Since getting rid of that specific male, I have not had any problems with males being overly aggressive towards females. I think he was just an outlier in regard to that personality trait.

@Larry Rogers Right now I'm using small tinted glass bottles. Dont know if they get too small for a fully grown female, but they seem to fit them for now. And there are a few alternatives in the tank. The top of the tank have grown in a bit, and although I'm compromising with the biotope...

I thought you meant the tank in this thread http://www.apistogramma.com/forum/threads/5-foot-biotopish.19122/ Regardless, I hope you are able to fix the issue and we get to see the result;)

Hey rr16, I'm looking forward to seeing how your tank comes along. And you're absolutely right, the look of the tank changes alot over time. Even though it might not look that appealing at times, having patience and allowing the tank to evolve, often means I have something more interesting to...

Sounds good! I hope you'll share it on the forum, once it gets under way. I am by no means an expert, but I'll gladly give a few pointers, if possible.

As of right now, I have a pair of cacs, plus five black neons.

Thank you madilynbo & Karin. I'll post some pictures of the tank, when the plants have grown in a bit more. I think there are 4-5 juveniles, that have reached a somewhat safe size. Ironically, their biggest theat now is their mother guarding a new batch of eggs. But with these little fryhunters...

    Fry on Sponge Filter

Hey, I have roughly the same setup and also around the same number of surviving fry, two weeks after seeing freeswimmers. But I don't feed the fry as well as you do. My criterion for succes is having a few that make it to adulthood. So I'm fairly satisfied so far. If one was to breed for...

Thank you. I have lost a few tetras on that account, yes. But I think it has alot to do with how safe the fish feel. With a dark substrate and alot of floating plants to hide underneath, it doesn't happen as often as one might think. I would not however, keep copellas or hatchetfish in a tank...

Thanks skoram. Yeah, the tank has worked out quite well as a breeding tank. Been contemplating making a larger version in wood. See if I get around to it. So far this tank seems to be able to accommodate two breeding females. Although leaflitter is an excellent way of medigating aggression...

Trying out a few different swords. Had a single female, from the last spawn posted above, that survived. Now old enough to bring out her own freeswimmers. They may try sooner, but this seems to be the age and size, in my experience, where a female can be expected to succeed in rearing her fry...

Thanks again for the help Darrel. Guess I'll have to wait until i get that microscope, before I can confirm the species. The spore has since opened up.

Thank you Darrel for corrections and links. The hydra also seems to multiply whenever I feed frozen cyclops over a longer period of time. Good to know there is a remedy if it gets out of hand. Also Darrel, I know this isn't exactly the topic of this forum, but is there any chance that you might...

Plenty of life in the tank at the moment, albeit on the smaller scale of things. Second day freeswimmers. Colonies of what I presume are two kinds of nematode, seen center and top right. A colony of hydra under a twig, that sticks out into the middle of the watercurrent. I'm hoping, that...

Hey, sorry for the late reply. And thank you for the kind comments. The genetics are quite interesting, unfortunately I don't have any grasp of the subject. These are the grandparents of my current stock, the pair that started it all. Since I had to buy a male for the females that I got from...

Thank you Gwendal. My old male somehow injured his lower jaw. As a result he started to look more and more emaciated and lost his colours. Rather then prolonging what looked to be the inevitable, I dicided his time was up. Didn't take long for the largest of the remaining males to fill the void.

Thank you Pinky. Hope to see more of your tanks and maybe steal a few ideas;). My plants are now crowding the lights and filling the tank with roots, so its probably time to rearrange a bit.
