Just saw these in my LFS. They'r labeled as Viejita... but kinda look like the elusive Steel Blue hybrid(?), is it? Sorry for the blurry pics... taken with my cell phone and the tank was pretty dark in the store.
Kinda tempting for me to buy a few, only $6-7@... too bad it looks like all male...
Just acquired these fish for a few weeks. I ended up with 2 males and 3 females, in a 20gallon long tank (30"x12"). Some recent pics:
Their tank setup, mostly with RO/DI water
Not sure what section of the forum this thread should go, but anway...
I have a used R/O unit (4 stages) that I've been using for awhile. Just suddenly it's going really slow.... I let it on overnite and only got 1 bucket (~5G) of R/O water.... normally (even the last time I useda few days...
I have a trio of apisto in a big tank (not other fish yet). Just the last day or so, the male is looking kinda sick.
His mouth (lips) seems to have a little fungus-like stuffs on it, and/or maybe the lips are just a lil swollen?!
And also start to notice his stomach seems to be bigger...
A better shot of my wild-caught A.bitaeniata (type this correctly now!! heh) male. He's still pretty young I think?!
Big version:

It's difficult to get alot of things here in Canada for whatever reason, and fish is no exception it seems. Anyway out of all places I've searched, I got these 3 so far, that is Canadian, or at least willing to ship to Canada:

AFAIK, the natural habitats for alot of apisto are thick layers of leaves litter as substrate, right? Do anyone actually put leaves in their tank to mimic that? Any particular kind of tree leaves common in N.America (Ontario Canada) can be put in tank?
Hi I just noticed one of my A.trifasciata has some sort of injury on his head. Is it just an injury (losing a scale maybe) or a diease? "hole in head" maybe?
Here's a pic

Thanks
Hi I've just acquired some A.trifasciata and A.bitaeniata. Anyone who've kept these 2 particular species, can you please let me know of what water/tank conditions that you find successful with? :)
They are all wild caught fish. Right now they are, in separate tanks, in about ~26 degree...
Hi
Before I go crazy and paid hundred dollar for shipping.... Is there any private breeder in NY state that's close to Hamilton<->Toronto<->Kingston of Ontario, so I can possibly just drive down to get the fish?? say, maybe Niagara Falls, Buffalo, Syracuse etc.. thanks
Is there a Volume 2? I've seen a pic of the cover somewhere once. Is it for sale yet? or still in preparation? If there will be a vol2, is it a supplement to vol1 or is it a totally new version? (ie should I buy vol1 still?) Thanks
Hi
I've recently acquired a pair of A.cacatu triple red, in a 5G tank of their own. They had spawned once already but no fry was left after a few days of free-swimming stage
They've just spawned again and the fry (~40) are just free-swimming now. The female seems to be taking good care...
