Ps. nicholsi - care of holding females

From experience, I tend to take the mother as soon as she releases her fry. Different individuals would have varying opinions but from the ones I've kept and bred, I've never left the mother for more than 2 days after fry release. If the mother keeps taking the fry back in her mouth then I...

    A. steindachneri spawn

Congratulations on your fry! I would feed them a few times a day - making sure to keep on top of the water quality. They should be easy to feed. What puzzles me is that from your post, you seem to describe the spawning to be open. I have these fish and they are a mouthbrooding species...

    Id' please

It might be a long shot but your fish looks like a South American mouthbrooding dwarf called Tahuantinsuyoa macantzatza.

    Pelvicachromis sp. ‘Falesade’

Hi all It seems to be more anti-climactic at the moment. I have been to the shop again and they have kindly shown me in the quarantine area. From what I can see, the Pelvicachromis sp. "Falesade" is actually a rubrolabiatus. The "Fansinga" is also a humilis but I cannot distinguish it as...

    Pelvicachromis sp. ‘Falesade’

Hi all I've emailed the shop yesterday and got a reply confirming that they do have them. I replied back to say that I did ask about them when I visited last week but was told otherwise. I am awaiting a reply to this and will try and visit again this weekend and see. I will let you know...

    Pelvicachromis sp. ‘Falesade’

Yes, it is a good shop, which explains why they got voted best shop in the UK. They tend to have good fish when I go and visit. West Africans are now showing up in their tanks more often. Whether it's appearing on their exporters' list or they've discovered they sell well I cannot say. They...

    Pelvicachromis sp. ‘Falesade’

Hi Mick I think I know the shop you are referrring to as I saw the listing as well. Unfortunately, they don't seem to have them as listed in the websitewhen I went to visit them last Bank holiday weekend. I even asked for them specifically in case they are in quarantine but have been told...

Well, I have some bad news. I checked them this morning and found that both fish have died. Can anyone advice on what might be the cause?

    Breeding problems?

Hi there I have recently acquired some Pelvicachromis species and one of them is the Pelvicachromis roloffi "Kolente River". I have separated a pair that I have noticed are getting broody and they are now in a tank of their own with a shoal of glowlight tetras. I am sure the pair have now...

    Please ID this "krib"

It looks more like an African lake cichlid to me. Nothing like a west African. more like a Paralabidochromis sp or commonly known as Rock kribs. Link below shows a female that looks very close to your fish. http://www.african-cichlid.com/YellowRockKrib.htm

    Magnolia Leaves and Eucalyptus Leaves

I'm not sure about Magnolia leaves but if you want to use some leaves to have the same effect as Almond leaves, someone suggested to use Oak leaves. I would agree with the others with regard to staying away from Eucalyptus leaves as well.

One of the fish - the obvious dominant one - has turned a different colour. Picture is below. Can anyone recognise this fish now? http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2005-3/978559/fish.JPG

    Not sure about these...

Well, it appears tonight that a pair have spawned. I can now see a definite female from the group holding eggs. Still not sure of what kind of fish these are though.

    Not sure about these...

I'm glad that someone said it might be Tilapia as I have thought of that the moment I saw them in the tank. Their spot is very conspicuous. They seem to be very curious and are not nervous at all. Their hue changes depending on their mood from pale silver with the spot very prominent to the...

    Not sure about these...

Hi there I have acquired a group of these fish and the guy in the shop told me they are Egyptian Mouthbrooders. Although they are in the same tank as the ones I recognised to be Egyptian Mouthbrooders, these are around 3 times the size and do not have any gold scales. Can anyone confirm...

    surprise Roloffi fry

Hi there I've recently posted a thread here with regards to my water parameters. I am in the process of starting to adjust the water through the user of RO water. The surprise would be that my roloffi pair have spawned and now have a batch of around 12 fry in the tank. I've only seen the...
