I guess, when talking strictly about fish, it's best not to be overly humorous, as many times words can be misconstrued...

I for one would like to know who developed this fish and bred it for this particular trait. The origins of any "new" (I use this term loosely) are important to the hobby, If it was an anomally found in a large population in the wild, I think it would be interesting to find out.
Have you...
Yutaka,
A question if I may, Are you actively persuing the source of these fish?
It would be nice to know who and where they came from, wouldn't you agree?
Is it common for the parents to fight over who shall care for the fry?
This is the second spawn, I believe with the first successful spawn the parents may have eaten the fry, or some cherry barbs (since removed) had their share of sushi.
After the fry had hatched, the mother protected them...
A number of Geophagus species are available in Australia. I have yet to see the particular species.
The Geophagines are actually not an allowable import here. It's possible they have come in via the "black market" but if they are a rarer fish, then I doubt they are here.
Hope that helps.
Thanks for the replies so far guys :-)
I started this topic as a bit of an eye opener for myself and others. I recently purchased a male and female A cacatuoides, the male appears to be missing the third spine on his dorsal fin :-( . It looks like a split with a slight webbing between 2...
Forum,
Can someone please explain/list the common deformaties that occur when breeding apistogramma, things to watch out for and be aware of?
Thankyou,
MC
Please excuse me for not reading all the previous posts above this one, it somewhat after midnight and I was just browsing and saw this thread.
My opinion is that the current system is superb. Many sites I visit take forever to load threads for various reasons. I like this forum so much...
All that information can be found here http://fish.mongabay.com/other_african_cichlids.htm
I always think its a great idea to give credit to the people who's information we use. Whether out of a book, or from a website. JMO
Once again Neil, thankyou very much, you have been so helpful, and it is appreciated.
Yes it has the reticulations on the anal fin. A "Triple Red" it is.
Now I wait :D
Thanks again,
MC
Thanks Neil,
I managed to take a little picture of the male. Is this the type known as the 'triple red'?

As you can see he is still very small. I am sure it will be worth the wait for him to mature.
After months of deliberating whether or not to go the Apistogramma route, I finally did it.
In a moment of weakness, I purchased a male and female Apistogramma cacatuoides
Both are under 2cm in size. Their current accomodation is a 72G corner aquarium, which is heavily planted. They both...
Hi Patricia,
Firstly, I second Randall's recommendation, I have heard nothing but good reports about it.
Secondly, I'm not sure if you have yet named your foal, however a combination of the mothers and fathers names could be used.
