    Fast flowing river dwarfs

I breed Teleogramma brichardi and Steatocranus tinanti and have spawned Gobiocichla wonderi and Teleocichla sp before and have never found it necessary to have a strong current in the tank. the important thing is to have clean water. Also T. brichardi and S. tinanti I spawn in hard alkaline...

Water Chemistry: Osmoregulation, Ionic Imbalance & pH

Yes the TDS meters are really just conductivity meters. If you are using a TDS meter the manufacture should tell you what there convertion factor is and they can range from .50 to .65. Your local water company will publish there convertion factor based on the proper way of measuring TDS for your...

    Anyone keeping Julidochromis?

I believe the smaller one is the females but I have not sexed a lot of pairs to be 100%. normally I start with a group and pick out the outcast until I only have the pair left so I dont normally care which fish is the male and which is the female. remember that size is not a 100% indicator...

    Tricks for removing extra julies?

In a tank that size I would have 2 piles of rocks, one on each end of the tank. you would end up with 2 breeding pairs or 1 pair in one side and the other on the other pile. you then can divid the tank and remove the extras with out disturbing the breeding pair.

    Anyone keeping Julidochromis?

Size along with behavior is a good indicator of sexes. the regani is the only one that could be considered harder to spawn from the others. regani is also the biggest of the julis too so I would expect a more noticable size difference in sexes. Of the julies the ornatus has the least size...

    Anyone keeping Julidochromis?

Did the group grow up together? they wild fish? If they are just a group of adults that were put together as adults that would explain the difficulty. also at that size you cant tell how old they are unless you got them from someone who grew them up. My guess is you need to be very paciant with...

    Anyone keeping Julidochromis?

they take longer to mature than the smaller julies and a 30 gallon tank is ok I think it is the smallest I would try spawning the in and have had the best results in a 50 breeder or 55.

    Sex ratio?

I wish it was that simple. My wild P. sacrimotis spawned at a pH of 7.8 and 550 us and it looks like I have a good sex ratio, maybe a couple more females than males. I had a batch of taeniatus that were hatch in florida and were moved up here to mass with me at 1 week old and were raised in the...

    New Year's resolution and fundraiser

It looks like we lost a couple of posts. I wrote this in response to the missing ones. Sabinae is good. You can start with one pair if you want but I always start with at least 2 pairs. It would be nice if we all try to maintain them beyond the end of the contest. That seems to a problem, when...

    New Year's resolution and fundraiser

I would like in on this as well. Any Teleogramma and G. ethelwinnae is good and I would sugest Pelvicachromis rubrolabiatus. I was thinking a challenge like this is a good way to get some of the rarer westies in the hobby.
