I have bred fire-reds, lost the first spawn, removed small cannister filter (Eheim Classic 2211) and replaced this with sponge filter and the next spawn all survived. Gravel substrate, a little less than PH neutral, plants, rocks and driftwood. Fry feed exclusively on microworms until large...
Apistogramma Breeders register
There has been an Apistograma registry established at the Dwarf Cichlid section of the discus forum web pages for ages now.

I have been pondering the most efficiant / suitable method of treating wild caught fish for possible parasites & disease. As such I would like to ask those here what medications / treatment regime you'd suggest to maximise the chances of survival and to best effect the wellbeing of the fish...
Success
Well here I am now happy and relieved that I have realised success. In both tanks I had been employing a small cannister filter (Eheim Classic 2211) which I have replaced with sponge filters. In both cases I now have rapidly growing fry. The agassizi female is still demonstrating...
I don't consider pure RO water is correct and I would also try reducing water movement. I have had trouble breeding agassizi and removed the cannister and replace this with sponges - I am now breeding with rapidlly growing fry. Also, what are the fry being fed ?
take care
You mentioned "all the others" - how many fish are in this tank? Your lad could be feeling stressed if the tank is densely stocked. If your fish appears to be physically OK and your water is ok we're left to speculation. Do you have another tank where he may take a break from his socialising?
Quick Update
G'day Mike
Just a Quick Update:
The filtered water, a little peat and some indian almond leaves apppear to have improved the environment. I have seen no signs of ill behaviour since culling the last of the sick fish. All appears to be Ok at this time. The parents have since...
Peat
Mike, thanks for that. I generally have no trouble getting my PH neutral tap water below 6 but....this past couple of weeks or so its been most uncharacteristically close to 8. I have undertaken a water change with filtered water and thrown on a little HOB filter into which I have placed...
Apistogramma masken
The environment.
Tanks 90 litres (750x400x300) & well established, fine white sand substrate, driftwood, plants, rocks, decent circualtion and filtration. Slight presence of humic acids (lightly stained water) at 26 degrees C. PH <7
Other occupants: 4 x Red Whiptail...
Earthworms
G'day Mike
perhaps you could share with us your approach to harvesting earth warms and the feeding of same to your Apistos? I have been threatening to set-up a worm farm (composting bin) for quite some time now to augment the diet of my Apistogramma. It would be nice to know how...
10 Cents Worth
I recently ordered a pair of Apisrogrammoides pullcapaenas and specified overnight freight (post). The fish were individually bagged (double bagged) with some Stress Guard added. The bags were wrapped in newspaper and placed into a foam box. 5 days later the parcel arrived...
Perhaps give the other kribensis a go seeing you like them. Perhaps try any of the other West African dwarf cichlids....
Nanochromis parilus / transvestitus
Pelvicachromis / roloffi / subocellatus / taeniatus...
...before considering the dwarfs from South Amercia. I love the West...
well thats very interesting. I have had seemingly endless spawns from double and triple red cacatuoides but have experienced nothing but failure with the orange-flash AS has two friends of mine. To be honest, I was about to rid my fish-room of cacatuoides until I encountered a triple red male...
Apistogrammoides
The pullcapaensis has been in Australia previously as a mis-identified Apistogramma. This has been expressed previously by those who know at the forum in Australia. Glaser had them in their catalogue earlier this year and I ordered some via the importer via my LFS only to be...
Apistogramma in Australia
Here in Australia we have our own problems sourcing Apistogramma. A good deal of what 'might' become available comes via Glaser in Germany. Always appear to be good fish but we 'may' be offered 40% of what Glaser has on their catalogue. Some aquariums are now...
G'day Mike
I had suspected something along these lines. The female agassizi appears to be a good mother, protective, chasing away the other fish including the male etc. Two fry survive from the first spawn (both female), none from the second and now she has had a third but I cannot see the...
Is it possible that the eggs were'nt fertilised and hey, why waste them?
I have employed those small (12 inch) LED strips above each of the teirs of my tank rack. They are brighter than I thought they would be but the fish don't seem to mind. Overall I am happy with them. These were...
I have made attempts to breed A.cacatuoides orange-flash. My approach has been the same as all other attempts to breed cacatuoides. However, I simply cannot get the spawns to survive. The tank is well established and other cacatuoides (double reds) have bred in this tank previously. Two friends...
At the present time I have available and ready to leave home the following Apistogramma...
...trifasciata
...gibbiceps
...huascar
...abacaxis
...cacatuoides triple red
A.baenschi and A.masken will be a few months maturing before they become ready to depart.
