Has anyone kept A. Cacatuoides with very small fish? I am thinking of fish<1", such as celestial pearl danios, ember tetras, or boraras species. I am just wondering if it is safe to keep them together, given the large (by comparison) mouth of the apisto.
It would be nice if they bred, but I don't really have any intentions on raising fry. If it happens and some survive, great, but I just want a show tank. If I only had room for more tanks :rolleyes:
I am taking down my 55 in August and setting up a 90. I am currently planning out the stock list. It will be a very heavily planted community tank with mostly schooling fish. I wanted to add a trio of cacatuoides to my 55, but decided to wait until I set up the 90. The stock list is not set...
I'm not sure how accurate the gH/kH values are, but I have tested for pH many times at around 8.2
I would be getting fish roughly from the same area, but I think the LFS uses RO, since they breed the fish themselves.
I haven't kept any apistogramma yet, and I'm trying to get more info. How vital is it to have low pH and TDS for apistos? I am thinking about 2 male cacatuoides in a 55g. I don't have an RO filter, and I probably don't have the money for one at this point in time. My tap is fairly hard...

Is anyone on this forum breeding apistos or rams and located fairly close to Ann Arbor? There's only one store carrying apistos or rams that I would trust around here, but the apistos are all full grown. I'd like to try out some juveniles.
Thanks for letting me know, what exactly are the temperature preferences? This may play a role in ultimately deciding what fish to get. I really like how double or triple red cacatuoides look, but they might be more trouble than they're worth.
