Dicrossus Maculatus and Dicrossus sp. Orinoco. I have kept both species several times and never had a sussceesful spawn.
Crenicichla Wallacci. These are the most aggressive 'dwarf' pike species I have kept. I think they make C. Compressiceps seem calm and friendly.
Female Kribs typical initiate spawning. If you have not already done so, I would add a group of 6-8 small cypranids (rasboras, white clouds or small non-aggresive barbs) and one or two other female kribs. You should not add any of the popular tetra species as they tend to be excellent fry...
I just witnessed a pair of Benitochromis Nigrodorsalis spawn on a flat piece of rock in the corner of a 30 gallon long. There are 2 other Benitochromis Nigrodorsalis and 6 large livebearers in the tank. Both the male and the female picked up the eggs once the pair had stopped spawning. The...
I have kept almost all of the Pelvicachromis Taeniatus strains but I have never had any successs breeding them in a 10 gallon tank. Make sure that you have a lot of cover and try to include some small cypranids (not tetras) as dither fish.
I received the following Private Message through this forum today. Did anyone else receive a similar message?

I'm new here and just wanted to say "hi"
How's it going?

The tetras are very effective fry preditors as are many cory species. Even with a 55 gallon tank you are likely to loose a lot of fry (you don't say how many tertras you have). If you want to raize the fry, you are probably better off moving the fry or (if possbile moving the other fish)...
Micro-worms tend to settle to the bottom of the tank very quickly. Your fry may not have enough time to find them. You might try vinagar eels, they stay in the water column longer, particulary if you have a sponge filter going (otherwise they will move to the top of the water column). Also...
The reference that I remember is in Mergus Cichlid Atlas V.1 on page 1044 (top left of page) in the discussion of C. Regani. There is a statement that "Interestingly, temperature plays a dominant role in sex determination (for futher details, see the remarks in the species description of C...
I have two pair that have spawned in the last 3 weeks. I have read that the ratio of male to female fry is temperature dependant. Does anyone know what temperature will yield an approximately 50/50 ratio? Thanks.
I feed black worms to my fish regularly. Leaches like the one in your photograph have always been present in the cultures I purchase from California Aquatics. I alwys picks them out with a tweezer. They have never caused me any problems.
It depends on the genus. I have used Golden Pearls for years with Pelvicachromis fry. Actually, I use a mixture of 300 micron GP, decapsulated brine shrimp eggs and freeze died cyclops. However, when I tried using the 50-100 micron size on Hemichromis fry (I did not use a mixture, the other...
