Brief Update-Couldn't be more pleased, the female brought out about a dozen healthy young last night. This is one of the Apistos I have been after breeding for a good while now - N Transvestitus next! As you intimated in your post earlier Ste - superb site when the young are brought out for the...

    Apistogramma iniridae..

Hi Ste, Good to hear you have another viable spawn. I've just checked and mine have about half a dozen fry which aren't doing too well (not brought out yet). It's her first spawn and the pair are still young sov not too dissapointed I'll get them next time! Have been compensated slightly by a...

    I.Adoketa

It's odd Mike as I have had quite the opposite with their behaviour. Two pairs formed out of 6 (were then separated) and since then I have loads of spawns from both pairs (one always eats the eggs) but minimal aggression (in fact only in the period straight after spawning). Having said this mine...

    Apistogramma iniridae..

Hi Ste, I've been the same with the iniridae. Haven't had a compatible pair until now(thanks to Mark who had a spare female). The good news is they have got eggs now so I have been keeping my fingers crossed for the last couple of days. Cheers Mark

Do apisto tanks need to be covered?

I cover all my Apisto tanks but have still lost fish to a 1-2cm gap.Worst jumpers I have had have been Atahualpa and Espei pencils. Some Apistos are less likely but better to be safe than sorry. A dried up fish on the floor isn't the best thing to open the fish house to! Mark

Not a cichlid, but thinks it is....

"Beautiful little fishes these.... I have approx 50 or so and only this weekend have set up a little breeding tank(12"-8"-8") to have a go at breeding them. Not much breeding info about. Mark... " Hi Mark Spooky, I hadn't seen the post before I mailed you earlier. I tried to get hold of...

    Nanochromis parilus update

Hi Ste, They're not sexable yet as they are only 4-5 wks old. They are still in with both parents who are now starting to get a little more timid and are showing signs f spawning again so I may well have to move/split them up soon. The pair bond looks pretty strong at the moment though...

    Nanochromis parilus update

Hi, I'm suprised by the aggression you mention. I popped a male and female together about 2 months ago and aside from a little initial sparring they have got along fine (did have some pencils as dithers in with them at the time). They spawned about 4 weeks ago and are currently both together...

Spawning Dicrossus filamentosus..A very happy moment.

Madman, I have often wondered whether if it was suitable to use willow twigs in the aquaria. Willows grow in acidic conditions I think and twigs would contain Salicin. I think this would mean Salicilyic acid would be created when saturated? Does anyone have any experience of this? Thanks...

    female A. sp. Miua

Hi Mike, Thanks for the clarification. I had got the 'pairs' about 6 to 8 weeks ago and had not taken too much notice of the 'females' as they were smaller than the males and also in this post it indicated that striping in the tail was possible. The other 'clear caudal' post I found alerted...

    female A. sp. Miua

Mike (or anyone else!), I have been searching through some of the old posts and have come across this one and also another one relating to the ID of female Miua. The first picture in this post shows a miua with striping/spotting in the caudal and from the responses I had presumed mine (1 mine...

Hi Mike, Many thanks for the ID (again). You'll have to have a chat with Mark to arrange a loan deal for his fish to get the ID right:biggrin: Pity we are so far apart! Cheers Mark

Hi Mike, A few more pictures of my fish. I have managed to get one reasonable picture of the fish I received as a female Uaupesi (FishB1). To be honest the fish both look very similar (although the pictures don't show this) in the tank. There is very little difference in the size of the...

    ID confirmation Please

Hi Mike, I'll try to get some better pictures tonight. Just to clarify, were your comments aimed at my picures, Mark's (Microman) or both? My fish came from Malaysia (via Singapore) and Marks were from a Columbian order. Mine don't show any yellowing around the gills at the moment. The thing...

    ID confirmation Please

Hi Mark, The fish look similar but mine seem to be slightly more laterally compressed. The shape of the face is slightly different as well. Overall I would say they are a differnt species. Mine came in from Malaysia via Singapore. The dorsal is serrated at the moment but I had this with the...

    ID confirmation Please

Hi, I have attached a couple of pics of a fish I ordered as Uaupesi. Whilst the overall form of the fish seems to refect Uaupesi I have a couple of doubts. The dorsal has not yet fused, occasionally there appears to be a break in the lateral line (I have seen this in some other confirmed...

Panduro and Nijsseni - Why the dislike

Bit of an odd one this really as the males are superbly coloured but females when in breeding dress are out of this world as far as their colour goes. Perhaps the colour is a little too near Malawis for some? As far as the aggression is concerned I personally don't think they are that different...
