    44 Gallon Stocking

Tank at about five months. Brown algae/diatoms are doing better than many of the plants. I think they may be nitrogen starved. Nitrate is at zero. Started adding some more nutrients to the tank to see if I can get the stem plants to start moving. Tank is too open still, I'm hoping I can get the...

    WC Parotocinclus Haroldoi medication?

Tank needs more plant growth, but these little dudes are doing well.

Ocean Nutrition Instant Baby Brine Shrimp

I started feeding NorthFin Bug Pro and my apistos are big fans. I've also got their Krill Pro and Community, both of which the apistos will tolerate. Bug Pro is their preference however.

    WC Parotocinclus Haroldoi medication?

Got some PraziPro. Will do 1-2 treatments then release into main tank once four weeks of quarantine is met.

    WC Parotocinclus Haroldoi medication?

Edit - I'm blind. See it now. That is a bit tricky. I may also be able to purchase Hikari PraziPro.

    WC Parotocinclus Haroldoi medication?

Yeah, think I'd rather avoid the antibiotic. I'm not seeing any mention of Metronidazole in the info sheet however?

    WC Parotocinclus Haroldoi medication?

Thanks. I have some Fritz ParaCleanse, however it's Praziquantel with Metronidazole. Looks like Fritz PraziCleanse is the one with just Praziquantel.

    WC Parotocinclus Haroldoi medication?

A few weeks ago I purchased three parotocinclus haroldoi to add to one of my apisto tanks. I've had them in quarantine and so far they're looking good. My question is, since they're wild caught, should I treat them with any medication before introducing to their permanent home?

    44 Gallon Stocking

He was in a tank by himself and was still in there when I went to bed. Nothing turned on or changed overnight, but something definitely spooked him.

    44 Gallon Stocking

Sadly my Agassizi jumped out of its tank last night. I didn't know apistos to be jumpers, but something must have spooked it. More lids ordered.

    44 Gallon Stocking

Today I picked up three Parotocinclus haroldoi. They're in quarantine for a little while then I'll add them to the 44 gallon. I moved the Agassizi to its own 10 gallon tank as the Abacaxis was being a bit aggressive and I noticed some damage to the Agassizi's tail. That was about a month ago...

Ocean Nutrition Instant Baby Brine Shrimp

I do have them in pellet form. The apistos are big fans.

Ocean Nutrition Instant Baby Brine Shrimp

Think I'll start feeding the Fluval Bug Bites I already have as a dry food. May also look into some products from North Fin: Bug Pro Cichlid Formula

Ocean Nutrition Instant Baby Brine Shrimp

Excellent, thanks. Think I'll go with BBS as they sound easiest to maintain.

Ocean Nutrition Instant Baby Brine Shrimp

Thanks. Might have to toss these jars then. I do have some bug bites and various Hikari dry pellets. As far as live foods, are BBS still a good food source for adult apistos? I'm trying to figure out which live food I should culture.

Ocean Nutrition Instant Baby Brine Shrimp

Interesting, I didn't realize the Acai stuff wasn't ideal. It's 55% protein, vs 45% for Bug Bites. Is it the 4% fiber that makes it a no go?

Ocean Nutrition Instant Baby Brine Shrimp

I have some bug bites, haven't tried them for my apistos yet. So far they seem to like Dr. Bassleer acai and garlic pellets.

Ocean Nutrition Instant Baby Brine Shrimp

I'm not doing any breeding, but my apistos and tetras seem to like BBS. What do you feed your adults?

Ocean Nutrition Instant Baby Brine Shrimp

I ended up with 20-25% remaining after six weeks. It's not the cheapest way to feed your fish, but given the shelf life is relatively long before being opened, is nice to keep on hand in case travel or other obstacles prevent maintaining a hatchery.

    40 gallon project planning

My guess is you've been seeing diatom algae as that's especially common in the first month or two. The nice thing is diatoms can only survive about seven days before dying off, so if you just keep suctioning it off during water changes, it will disappear on its own as the tank stabilizes. With...
