Well that is a bummer to hear. On the other hand, all of my fish have eventually died! I do know that darkened head pigmentation can be associated with mycobacterial infection, which I have had concerns about in the past. What was the correlation in timing between appearance of the coloration...
Hi, not sure I have seen this before but my female Borellii has recently been showing dark pigmentation around her head. Picture doesn't even fully do it justice, but you can get the idea. She had been in yellow breeding coloration for quite a while (had some fry, kept them together for a few...
Hi all, these nannostomous marginatus are available on Dan’s fish without photo and I was curious if anyone has any experience? I’m looking for a small group of pencilfish to go with some female borellii in a 20 gallon long. Water is 72F, pH 6.8, hardness <75 TDS. Let me know if I’m on the wrong...
Hi, these little guys are a few months old now and I’m hoping to separate the males and females… any help on the determination? I’ve got a few photos attached which ought to be numbered on the pic. 1-4 are the kids and 5 is the mom (who is suspiciously yellow).
More than the ID - can you tell...
Nice, thanks Ben. I may be burning a bridge too far with my wife if I establish live worm cultures but I will investigate! In the meantime I’ll keep the mysis going. Hikari has their standard version and then these monster “Lake Okenegan” variants that are supposedly both invasive and more...
Title pretty much covers it. I’ve been keeping BBS hatching regularly to feed my borellii fry (now juveniles) and all the fish seem to love it (have some rummynose tetras and chili rasbora too). I also feed some frozen food (myesis shrimp, cyclops) and some crumbled bug bites from time to time)...
Great to hear. One more Q - I know sand is the preferred substrate and I also hear that darker substrate is a better canvas for apistos. What do people use here? I’ve been using pool filter sand but it’s very light beige.
Hi all, I’m looking at a 35” x 11.5” x 11.5” aquarium, which a very long 21 gallon. My plan was to put 3 or 4 borellii females I have growing out in my large tank (prevent any more spawning) plus a few dithers, lots of plants etc. I’d like to have it be open top with some emersed wood and...
Very cool! When they start displaying to each other (if they haven’t already) it’s pretty funny / fun to watch. Seems like practice (though eventually not).
Oh, and at what size is it reasonable to be able to sex them? Right now the only difference I can see is that some of the them have a black fringe at the the very tips of their dorsal fins.
