    Just checking in

Hi all, It's been a while since I've been around. I've dismantled the fishroom (And the website has went the way of the dinosaur too) in preparation of a move to a new house currently under construction. Hope to be moved in sometime in June. Will be trying like mad to make it to Denver come...

    Kudos to Zman!!

I purchased some T. candidi a few weeks ago. Picked up a few more at the ACA last week. Was reading up on them, asking the few people I know who have kept them some questions. Z pointed me to an artical about them on his site Tuesday night. I was close on the water parameters, the setup of the...

    New Fish

A friend of mine, who imports fish, happened to bring in the Mother Lode a little while ago. T. candidi, Biotecus, and D. maculatus. If anyone is interested, PM me for details...don't want to turn the lounge into an advertising billboard. Ken

New fish or just new names?

Me being the mistrusting skeptic again...anyone familiar with any of the following 'New' apistos: diamante, celeste, Inca CF 'C', Cameta, Rondonia, assurimin, iriri, itaituba, Boa Vista, and mirari. The first red flag that raised for me was this person telling me he has his own collecting...

    Red Crystal Shrimp

I'm getting ready to do another 55g planted and had these shrimp recommended as an Amano Shrimp substitute. Anyone have any experience with these guys? From what I've read online is they are fairly small, about 1 inch. Current plans call for a pair/trio of apistos - either aggies or cacatouides...

    Computer Problems

My computer died on me last Thursday. I have a new one that I'm currently setting up and configuring. My internet access is suspect at best right now. If anyone has sent me any emails, I haven't been able to stay connected long enough to get anything downloaded. I'll be installing my Satellite...

    Nanochromis parilus

I have 3 wild males and no females. If anyone is looking for a male or two to cross into their stock or has a spare female, drop me a note and we can work out a trade or a loan. Thanks, Ken

    October was a good month

I don't know if has to do with the change of seasons or maybe I get things right about every 3 months or so, but the fishroom was busy for October. Spawns from Apisto. agassizii 'Alenquer' and Flame-tails, Apisto. borelli, Apisto. macmasteri, Apisto. nijsseni (Which I've only had for 2 weeks)...

    Hybridization

Anyone know what the chances of Pelv. subocellatus crossing with Pelv. taeniatus or Pelv. pulcher are? I've got a couple pairs coming in and am trying to determine which tank(s) they will eventually call home. I'd prefer to keep them with the other westies, but I have mixed apistos and WA before...

    West African Web Page

With all the interesting discussion lately on West Africans, I decided to create a page on my site to post some pictures that people have but may not have a place to post them. Pictures like Randall's Pelv. 'Makoure' and Neil's dimidiatus. If anyone has any other interesting pictures dealing...

    Changed my layout

Changed my webpage up...again. I think all the links I have posted here in the forum still work. If they don't, let me know and I'll get them fixed. Ken http://www.roundtownaquatics.com

    Apisto. macmasteri questions

I've got a pair that I've had since May. Took me a while to get them started, but they had their first spawn around the first of August. Now, they are spawning every week to 10 days, but they are rather small spawns for such large dwarfs (Is that an oxymoron? Large Dwarf?). Maybe 20 to 25...

    Nanochromis nudiceps v. Nanochromis parilus

http://www.roundtownaquatics.com/nudiceps-parilus.htm After reading Mary Bailey's response on the West African Yahoo group, Neil's response to my original inquiry, and the Linke and Staeck West African book, it seems tail and dorsal markings are one of the determining factors. The...

    Apistogramma gephyra

Ok...I've had these guys for almost a year. 10 spawns, not a single fry to show for the effort. They spawned again last night and I pulled them this time. I used all water from the tank they spawned in to fill the 10g I am going to try to hatch them in. I've read in a few places that the pH...

    New additions to the basement!!

Finally got synched up with the seller and recv'd my fish today. Still small, maybe 1.5 inches at best. Here is one of them and a picture of their new home. As always, my disclaimer...Ugly pictures of pretty fish... http://www.iwaynet.net/~ken1/fish_pics/new_pics/Telocichla_monogramma.jpg...

    Old Fish and New Fish

My South American fishroom is slowly migrating to West African. Recently added some Pelvicachromis humilis and Nanachromis spendens from Neil's brood. They are all eating, growing, and starting to color up. Today I just got in some wild fish labeled Nanochromis nudiceps. If you subscribe to the...

    Interesting Parental Behavior

I am wondering if anyone else has noticed this kind of behavior in other dwarfs... I've got a pair of Bolivian Rams (M. altispinosa) in a 15g with a pair of Pelv. taeniatus "Dehane" The bolivians spawned a few days ago, and I didn't have a hatching tank available, so I let them keep them...
