    Wild Peru Apistogramma ID's

Hi again, a friend just returned from a collection trip and brought back a couple groups of Apistos. I'll get more exact locations soon, but for the time being, I know he was days away from Iquitos, and I don't believe these two species were caught in the same location. The one we believe is A...

    A. macmasteri female and breeding tips

Oh, and Dicrossus are one of my favorites, kept a group for a few years, got a number of spawns but the eggs never lasted more than a day. I will work with them again in the future for sure! Do you happen to know what they're life spans are, I didn't change any thing in their tank, but after...

    A. macmasteri female and breeding tips

Ah, yes, I do mostly hear the remineralazion talk from the plant guys! I did forget to mention, I also add botanicals to most of my soft water tanks, nothing too much though, a Catappa leaf and or some alder cones is about all I add.

Thanks so much for the info, I will move the extra male out, there's lots and lots of hiding areas with driftwood and live plants, floating hornwort also. Yes, there is a de-ionizer stage, I also keep a reef tank, that's the reason I have a four stage unit. Because of the de-ionizer, I thought...

    A. macmasteri female and breeding tips

Thanks so much for the info, I'll send a pic of the tank when I get home. They are housed in a standard 10gal tank, with multiple caves, driftwood, plants and the only occupants are a few pygmy cory cats and a few Nannostomus marginatus. Wow, I didn't know that about the waste water, the whole...

    A. macmasteri female and breeding tips

Hi, I've raised up a group of F1 macmasteri from fry and they are now a little over a year old. First time keeping this species, and was hoping for a little advice on breeding them. There are 3 in the group, and I believe I have a reverse trio, but not sure, worried that I may have 3 males...

    Apistogramma calamar?

Hi, just wanted to follow up on this species, here are some adult pics of the male and female, does the original ID still stand? The 3 pics are of the same male, sometimes he's very orange in the face and caudal base.

    Crenicichla notophthalmu possibly?

I'll get a pic of what I believe is a male, the group as a whole is young. This is my first time keeping any Crenicichla, but from what I've read, females have the dorsal occeli and males lack it, is that always the case or can males also have occeli? If so, then I have only 1 male out of 5 fish...

    Crenicichla notophthalmu possibly?

I was able to get a wild group of young Crenicichla, labeled as regani. After watching them a few days, I'm starting to feel they may be notophthalmu, any thoughts? They were supposedly collected from Columbia.

    Apistogramma calamar?

The handful Apistogramma species that use mouthbrooding, are they true mouth brooders like some Geophagus or the Haplochromines or are they larvophiles? I never keep any yet, but I really want to!

    Apistogramma calamar?

Hi, I need your help again, a fish has popped up on a list that I've never heard of, Apistogramma 'calamar'? The pictures are not great, bare bottom tank, showing no color. Has anyone heard of this fish, I can't find any info on it, searched the name on this site and on Tom's Apistos, maybe I...
