5 gallon tanks for pair breeding?

You could however consider killies (-not that know much about them) or Parosphromenus. The latter is being bred and kept in that size tank. I got two species of paros and both are great fun to watch and a bit of breeding adventure… -r

5 gallon tanks for pair breeding?

Hmm… unless you are rather experienced in apistos or atleast in more demanding fish than the typical beginner fish i would say none. The tanks imo, is to small. Not saying it can’t be done but i wouldn’t do it. To little space for all involved. -r

    ivanacara bimaculata

Good luck with them. They are absolutely fantastic fish to follow. Uhh! Just an idea, not sure if it will help in any way. Dim the light either with floaters or in any other way. Also put something dark on the backwall. Should help the fish feel more secure. If you get them to spawn, it will...

    ivanacara bimaculata

that should be a good size. i was recommended only one pair for my 155 liter, so your tank should be fine for a trio, though i'm not sure how it works fish wise if you got 2 females. they seem to both be on parental duty. ohh! ph should as far as i know be 5,5 or lower to get them to spawn, so i...

    ivanacara bimaculata

time for a small update... today i got first glimpses of my pairs 3rd batch of new kids on the block... i have just caught the last ones of their previous spawn which is now at 3-3,5cm length. and is housed in the teenage tank. this newest batch looks to be even bigger than the previous one (30...

    Keeping Dicrossus with Biotoecus

I have never kept any of the two species, so i can’t tell for sure, but i imagine two bottomdwellings cichlids might not be a good idea. Are both species territorial? If so, i’m rather sure its a no eventhough the tank is pretty big. Not sure about the cory’s either… Meh!! -better wait for the...

    Pond plants

Hi all! I got a small question for all you plant buffs (-looking at you, darrel)… Have any of you ever tried using one of the smaller nympheas( or any size for that matter) in a tank setup? -and not “just” use normal zenkeri or whatever the name. Also i have noticed elocharis (hair grass) is...

    Is this a female Mac?

I’d guess female too, but as far as i can see its a domestic strain and therefore hard to sex. Often females have been bred to have male characteristics. -r

    blue-green algae issue

Yeah!! Sorry, i don’t have any qualified guesses as to why and how it’s come, nor why that particulare part is more exposed. -but i do hope you figure out a good solution. -r

    blue-green algae issue

Is this part of the tank more exposed to sunlight? Maybe an unintended light source could be the “tipping point”… -just a thought. I noticed i too have a bit in the sand, up against the side of the glass. That part of the tank faces a window that has morning light. -r

I'm truly at a loss here, please help (cycling low KH tank)

I briefly had those shrimps (Amazon zebra shrimp from Peru). Didn’t see much of them as they are nocturnal. I think i bought 3-5. One was dead in the bag and the others slowly dwindled away. -but it was sorta fun as long as it lasted. Though i’m not sure i would do it again. -r

Fry With Lots Of Leaf Litter

I wouldn’t worry about the depth of the leaflitter either. I’m sure mother fish got it covered. Plus the fry can surely find something to eat there. You should only opt your own patience level, for when you need to catch the little buggers again:) -r

    Identifying Apistogramma species

Thanks a lot Sir. I have actually just ordered one of the pink maiden (nurii) and i have few “tropica”, which i think is just a cultivar of wendtii. So i think i got enough for now, but thank you for the offer and insight. -r
