Thanks for the reply. I am using gaseous CO2 as well, but the extra boost is comming from the Excel. For dosing, I must admit that I am dosing in relation to the bottle recomendations. Is that not a good way to do it. I looked up the EI instructions and might do that. I change roughly 30% of my...
When would be a good time to start using macro nutrients? I currently have about 3watts per gallon of t-5 lighting. I use flourish excel, ferro-vit, micro nutrients and potassium. In the past, I have relied on the fish to provide the N and P.
Any advice would be appreciated.
Hi Ed,
Thank you very much for your assessment. It helps quite a bit and it give me some long term goals on my next tank. I will use the Excel until I get the pressurized CO2 and I will either change the substrate or introduce the macro nutrients slowly.
On the same note, is there a...
Does Flourish Excel work well in addition to CO2? I use CO2, but it is a little underpowered (CO2 Natural Plant System) and the plants could use a boost. I have a 29gal with four 30 t-5 bulbs. I also have laterite in the substrate and use ferro-vit weekly. Would This give me the boost I need or...
I have a F0 male cacatuoides that I obtained from Ray McCaleb a couple years ago. I imagine that this fish is at least 2 1/2 to 3 years old. He has recently lost his nice yellow and blue color and is no longer interested in the three females with whom he shares his tank.
I would like him to...
I am setting up a 75 gal tank with a 4X65 pc lamp, ehiem 2215 canister filter and a carbo plus CO2 system. I would like this to be a very heavily planted tank. My question is regarding the best substrate to use. I am eyeballing the Seachem florite right now, but I thought I would throw this out...
Yeah, those are cheap bulbs. Does anyone have experience with them? I mostly use coralife bulbs, but with (1) 96w quad and (6) 65w lights to buy, that gets a bit expensive.
Thanks for all of the good tips. My female ate the eggs on Saturday. I assume this is pretty common for the first clutch. I did not get a good enought look at the eggs to determine if they were fertilized or not. I guess the fact that the pair seems to be bonded is the most important now.
Thank you all for the help. I have a 75 gal that is sitting idle. If I put the pair in there, could I keep more than one male as I would with apistos? Say 2 males and 6 females? Perhaps with some dithers? I have CO2 and intense lighting for this tank, so planting heavily with many caves and...
I just bought some kribs labeled F0 Nigerian Pelvicachromis sp. "yellow". Are is this a common name for Pel. Sacrimontis? Whatever the sub species is, they are quite beautiful. I tipically raise apistos and was wondering about a few things.
First, water paramaters. I set my tank up slightly...
It is not uncommon.
I once put 6 green neon tetras (dithers) in my tank with a wild cacatoides. By the next morning, only 3 were still swimming and there was a nice buldge in the males stomach.
A number of things could be happening. Perhaps the male did not fertilize the eggs, or maybe she ate them. I have had females that age their eggs after only a day. Many say that this behavior is just new mother syndrome and that it takes a few times to get it right. Other females know just what...
I have had no problem with bloodworms. I feed these to my apistos about 1-2 times a week. I additionally use tubifex, live black worms, daphnia and mysis. Plus, I use frozen artima with spirulina. I am not sure they need the spirulina, but I think it may help with digestion.
I mainly use the...
