Don't forget, you came to the experts to ask about species size because you apparently don't know how big some of the most common Apistogramma in the world are. And 4 people have you answers. And you chose to get defensive because your fragile ego felt attacked.
Your shop owner is happy to...
@bigtanksmallfish:
Nobody here cares how much money you've invested in your tank. Trying to justify that your tank is suitable for the livestock you are wanting by listing off filter medias, sump sizes, and monetary amounts of driftwood tells us only one thing: You have more money than perhaps...
Your three responses, coupled with the fairly obscure request in the original post, tell us all we need to know.
You just argued with one of the most respected Apistogramma experts on the planet. Congrats, you played yourself. *peace*
I mean, 2-3" is fairly accurate for most species. My males have always been around 2.75" at full size, but at breeding facilities that pump brine shrimp and water changes for all the fish, I've seen males get 3.5" long and 1.5" tall. If you don't encourage them to grow rapidly like these places...
Mine were super shy and took forever to show color. You either have a dud male or one that is still learning that it isn't in trouble if it shows color. I don't see anything feminine about the two photos.
I'm in Tampa. In a few months I should have some F1 Winkelfleck if you're interested. They are approaching 1" now but still not sexable save for a few males.
I have a 20 Long (30" x 12" x 12") that will be housing a pair of Apistogramma. For those with experience with N. rubrocaudatus, how many shall I plan on adding? They will be the only other fish with the Apistogramma.
I got a group of 4 about 3 months ago. They arrived and I asked for 2 pair and received what I thought were 2 males, 1 female, and an unknown. The unknown turned out to be a male.
I keep them in a 33 Long (48" x 13" x 13"). Lots of leaf litter and palm fronds to break sightlines. They are with...
Yes I believe they have red near the gill plate. But also they were in shipping so I expect some stress and/or burn. They seem to have settled nicely. I need to fatten them up.
I have 4x of these arriving later this morning. They said they were sexable, but had an imbalance in gender ratio. If you just want a pair or two, they should be fine sending them. I can update you later once they arrive. I also assume any photos they have on their website were taken from the...
Any fish you buy from any source ever will have been transported via air at some point in its lineage. And every source is different. By the time these miniscule fish get to Wet Spot, they would be dead if they had significant issues. I took mine home and immediately fed them flake food.
I can...
