Welcome to the sight Hugo, If she is not ready to bred but he is, he could stress her enough to kill her, I would remove the young female to another tank to grow up some more.
Good thought MacZ, there was about 5 male Borellii in with them and did not think to mention it being a different species, but hormones/pheromones does sound plausible.
Was at my LFS and they have about dozen female agassizii with no males or fry, all of them were canary yellow and still are a week later anybody else ever see this?
Too many fish and there very active, apisto's like calm tanks.
IMO yes, Cacs. get fair size for a dwarf cichlid but if only to breed and remove the male after fry I have had good luck, but stay on top of your water changes.
Most of the time that is true but in two of mine the females come out to eat and will stay out for a while, I have no other fish in those two tanks. But in other tanks I also have no other fish in with them and the females dont come out till fry time.
PH of 6.9 should be fine for tank raised, that's what my mac. tanks are at and they breed more than I want them to. As yellow as she is are you sure there is no eggs or fry?
If you haven't already, I would remove the male of female before one of them winds up dead. What size tank? At one point she looked like she wanted to breed but why he is black, stress maybe for some reason? I have males that want to breed and chase the females but not like that.
I would keep a close eye on them, with apisto's I have had them turn [the female] into hell on wheels overnight. I got three hoping to get a male for my 2 1/2 yr. old female, two did not make it and the one that did I thought was a female I'm starting to second guess as now it may be showing...
I had that happen once before with Borellii with there first batch, after the first batch it was it was not the same she wanted to kill the male so he was removed.
