Thanks Mike. I've managed to pick up this fellow from a shipment from Peru, in your opinion, what may have caused the ventral fin to be red....something unique and rare in cacatuoides....
Its fries have also developed full coloration and a little extended caudal fin at such young...
Hi folks,
Pardon the poor quality pictures. This is my pair of cacatuoides which produced 3 batches of fries since october last year. thanks
Male
Female
Fry at 8weeks old
Very nice and clear pictures of your babies!!! Keep them coming and update us...I love to see your pictures, very nice and extensive collection of fishes you're got!!!
Do you use UV for all your tanks to induce spawning? Another question is how do you lower the ph for breeding of this unique species?
I've always enjoyed your pictures of collection of dwarf cichlids!!!
Kh is 0 while ph is 6.3...
Does females have extended high dorsal fins like the males? one of them have a rather high and extended dorsal compared to the other...
The parents always lay great number of eggs but have no luck in hatching them as yet....fungus always appear on the eggs though, actually I just have them in my planted tank to add some life...no hard ups in breeding them
From what i see, the " male's " sexual organ is bigger than the "females".....
I'm just shocked to see the "male" lay eggs in front of my eyes...
so far, none of the eggs from all 3 batches have hatched before...
I'm quite sure its the "male" who laid the eggs last night, as I saw that "his" sexual organ was bigger and I saw eggs coming out from it while the "female" had a little lump only....I'll see if if I can get some pictures..they're hidden behind a bush of plants
Hi guys,
Once again my rams have spawned again....I have the good luck to witness the egg-laying process.....but what is shocking me is: the "male" is laying the eggs while the "female" is rubbing her little anal thing on the eggs!!! Does male rams lay eggs??? could someone please clarify it...
thanks for the pointers nightowl...
Only a ahndful of the eggs turn solid white, the rest are still a little transparent and beige in color....using the heater, whats the temperature to hatch the eggs? Do I have to bubble the eggs rigorously to provide good flow for the eggs?
I'm leaving...
The eggs did not hatch and no developments after 3days....anything might be wrong? I put an air stone in to bubble with meth blue in it...anything missing?
The parents have just laid another clutch of eggs last night and i'm leaving it to them to learn....
I've just pulled out a batch of blue ram's eggs and put them for artificial hatching....bubbling them with methylene blue solution to prevent fungus....its been 12hrs, so far the eggs looks fine without any "hairs" or fungus....any other pointers i need to take note off?
