    Apisto collecting in Itapeaçu

It's awesome to see A.salpinction alive, what a great find, Hudson :) And the regani is really nice too! About that Laetacara, how is it not L.curviceps...? I thought L.fulvipinnis was less blue and more brownish, occured further north and according to the description has "caudal fin without...

    Nannacara aureocephalus breeding tips

You should furnish the tank with a lot of fine-leaved plants, stones and bogwood. Javamoss is always a nice plant to include. The tank needs a lot of hiding places, and there's a strong possibility you may have to remove some of your individuals. The dominant male(s), particulary when breeding...

What do you feed your Apistogramma's?

I've always used adult (dead) brine shrimp as main food, my experience is that this is the food most likely to be eaten by any Apisto. It's always worked very well for conditioning wild specimens with sunken bellies. I sporadically use other frozen foods like mosquito larvae, daphnia, cyclops...

    A.sp.Kuiari?

To me this one is unfamiliar. It's presented at the website of Japanese importer Aquafin, and said to come from Rio Icana Kuiari, Colombia. http://aquafin.web.infoseek.co.jp/apisto-minima/New-apisto-top.html Haakon

    A.sp.llanero & A.sp.assuruni

The importer was kind enough to send me some pictures, along with some thoughts about them. A.sp.llaneros seems to be very close to A.sp.pebas and similar species, really beautiful. A.sp.assurini is according to the importer possibly a member of the cacatuoides group. I must admit the pics of...

    A.sp.llanero & A.sp.assuruni

I just skimmed through the latest stocklist from a large German importer and saw a couple of names I haven't encountered before; A.sp.llanero and A.sp.assuruni. Both are listed as new species. Naturally I'm curious about what hides behind these names, so does anybody here know? Haakon

    Apistogramma sp. Gigas????

Mike, I just sent you an email. Yes, the link shows a better pic of the original sp.Gigas. It's always nicer to see specimens in that way rather than those held in a hand above water, methinks ;) Does this recent pic make it any clearer that it belongs to the Apistogramma Genus? The recently...

Impact of Xingu dams on Dwarf Cichlids

So we may avoid the extinction of many of them in nature after all, this gives hope. Would it be possible to come up with a list of Dwarf Cichlids found in the Xingu area? I can think of A.pulchra, A.sp.'vielfleck' and A.sp.'Xingu'... Haakon

    Apistogramma sp.Victoriano?

I haven't heard of A.sp.Victoriano before, but after a quick internet search it seems to be a name used for a variety of A.atahualpa...? I found this pic which shows an interesting male, unusual colours...more info would be nice :) it's found here...

Impact of Xingu dams on Dwarf Cichlids

Damming of the Rio Xingu in Brazil seems to be an unavoidable happening in the not too distant future. We've been discussing the issue for some time in detail over at Planetcatfish.com, dreading the demise of many of our beloved Catfish species. Many of them depend on their habitat's fast...

Apistogramma sp. Caño Libertad (Heiko Bleher)

I just read this short report over at Heiko Bleher's website; http://www.aquapress-bleher.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=433&Itemid=1 Scroll down and there's this wonderful Apistogramma, but I can't really put a name on it...anyone? -Haakon

    Apistogramma sp. Gigas????

If you translate the text it says "Jamin thin", more than likely referring to Rio Jamanxim where the Ap.sp.Peixoto were caught during the same expedition. This backs up Mark's suggestion. It's still a pretty cool looking fish though :) Seems the Japanese have decided to call this one "Gigas II"...

    Apistogramma sp. Gigas????

Gigas incoming...it seems the first specimens have been collected and reached Japan. Although, these are labeled "Gigas II", so perhaps they're viewed as a different species by the collectors/importers...? It says they're from Rio Teles Pires, A.sp."Gigas" was caught in Rio Curuá, but judging...
