Just be aware that when experimenting with your water lettuce things with plants can take weeks or months to determine end results; when you first put the plants in the might grow fast if they had new growth that the plant had begun or they might die back as they adjust to a change in...
I will also point out that having all only male can depend somewhat on the specific species and individual fish as i have found some solo males to be quite territorial without partners. My sample point is not large enough to note if this is due to species or individual fish but i suspect it is...
I would block the holes at the start so the back has less flow or make the holes larger to reduce intensity; or lower the spray bar so the flow is lower leaving the top more tranquil but quite frankly he can experiment and see how it does with the current flow - i just haven't had much success...
Well i'm not feeding worms to the dwarf cichild; i'm feeding it to the discus and it is something they get fed every day. I do put in other food for the dwarf cichild and htey do it but then they go after the worms :(
As for the discus no it is kind of weird after they get frightened of their...
So i have one likely male and probably 3 femaels and 2 unknown. Right now in their non-sexual mature all 6 hang together and are pretty people friendly esp given the size of the aquarium and being wild caught. I still have problems with the discus bumping into each other while feeding and going...
Ok i measured them the best i could - the smallest (which is smaller than the rest by a bit) is 1 1/4 inch the others range from 1 1/2 to 2 inches. The one that is 2 inches has a bit of colour in his tail but not a huge amount. The one photo was probably around 1 1/2 inch.
Can you tell me what...
I still prefer frog bit but each to their own; the thing about these plants is they hate current - a little current can ruin a 30x30 area of floating plants :(
I picked up a group of these and they are in that 1.5 inch range with one smaller one closer to 1.2 inches (group of 6):
This is the smallest one; at what point will they be sexable typically - if you have kept them; a google search suggest they aren't really sexable other than males being a...
I'm not sure - they are new plants in a year they should have the tank fully packed (if they do well); if he puts in more it will just stunt their growth - the real problem is they are new and he doesn't want to wait a year before buying fishes ;)
The only problem with plants is taking into account how they will grow over time. Not sure which grass you have - if it is dwarf stagittaria or one of the micro swords; if micro sword one small plant will cover the entire bottom in 6 to 12 months; if dwarf stagittaria it will grow a lot slower...
For the record i started the test yesterday (Feb 18) @ 11 am cdt tds 16:
Today (Feb 19) @ 10 am cdt tds 17;
(I won't measure it every day but i will update it once or twice during the next two weeks); mostly this comment means i won't have to totally work off of memory ;)
Adding a single female will increase the aggression between them if they are both males. In truth you will likely have to remove one though it is possible with proper places to hide 2 males by themselves could co-exist.
At this point i would add more places for them to hide and wait and make...
Well stunting would be an issue of course and i hope mine are not stunted though like i said i won't know till i tear the tank down - as it kind of went wild with plants.
I've seen those discussion but i'm not sure that is what happened here after all i feed them the same thing as the f1 pictured and they have not been out of the wild that long - maybe 2 or 3 months.
Anyway it is what it is but my best guess is they came that way.
Because i never follow the rules i must have 50 or 60 frys in this aquarium ranging from 1 1/2 inch to 1/4 inch:
Of course these are not agassizii and i'm finding the a. sp blutkehl much more passive towards the near adult frys; of the species you listed i think only borelli would remain...
This is wetspot response with catch location:
"these are confirmed wild caught with a location of Tahuayo River, Peru"
Adding @Frank Hättich and @Tom C in case they have been in that area. I'm mostly curious if they are another strain or a related species.

There are a lot of places including wetspot (who is currently sold out); you should expect to pay $25 a fish or $50 for a pair (though some places like the one linked) will charge up to $100 for a pair. Personally i would buy several small...
