Awesome david! Growing out little fish can be so rewarding and fun! It's terrific to watch them grow and interact.
What apistogramma type will you be breeding?
Hey guys, as some of you may know, I'm currently growing out my first ever batch of apistogramma cacatuoides fry. I have another question and hoping some of you can help as I have received so many helpful answers in the past.
My current batch is growing close to a size where I am going to sell...
Lots of the time with your lfs they simply label the apisto or any fish under exactly what their list says it is. BUT that list also usually has the collection location on it. It's likely not worth the drive, but, it couldn't hurt to call and ask for a knowledgeable sales rep and see if they...
I've been doing a bit more research. I'm changing my opinion, I believe you have a female apistogramma baenschi.
Also I forgot to mention this earlier. When mike wise does reply he will likely want to know where this specimen was collected from. It may be wise to inquire at your lfs and see...
Good to see you came on over here to get an id. I'm sure mike wise will help you when he sees this. His last name is no joke!
As I said on plantedtank.net, I'm leaning towards apistogramma eunotus female, but I'm certain a professional will be along shortly to help you!
Yea, I have been doing a test and I leave small pellets in a spot I can remember and then check the next day. They do without a doubt eat it, just drives me mad that they always have to spit it out first and let it settle on the bottom lol. My big male is a pig, food rarely makes it to the...
Thank you mike for the response. Yea I'm no longer "concerned" with them not eating but I wish they would just eat more when the food isn't alive. Trying to bulk them up a bit, but I think blackworms may be the key.
Just an update my fry are now picking food off the ground and will accept it that way. They however will not take any food that is not alive from the water column. I watch them snag frozen cyclop-eeze and spit it back out immediately and it drives me nuts! They are currently accepting ground...
Thank you once again for the kind words. I'm very excited about these fry and I am loving my big beautiful male more and more each day. Apistogramma have such wonderful personality I can't believe as long as I have been keeping fish I'm only just finding out about these wonderful fish!
Sorry for the delay I have been meaning to update my post with some pics of my fry, so instead I got a video!
Here is a video of my first feeding to the fry of live blackworms, it was funny to watch them struggle!
Ok so I have a batch of about 20 apistogramma cacatuoides fry that are about a month and 1/2 old. They were born in a community tank that is packed with lots of micro fauna and in addition scuds, which are a small freshwater amphipod. They stayed in this tank with the mother, father, some...
Yes I did read a bit about that which sounds promising. I think the thing I'm most excited about is that fry will supposedly eat this as soon as they are freeswimming. I'm trying to get my 1 month old cacatuoides fry to take it now. I'll update with results for them as well as they current...
Hi guys, today at my LFS they have a section in which they are getting rid of Repashy Gel Foods to take them off the shelves. They were discounted 50% off so I grabbed one called "Meat Pie".
Anyone have experience with this food and it's results? I am currently feeding dainichi food and it's...
Sorry to keep posting, I tried to edit this into my previous post but apparently 15 mins has passed and you can not.
I wanted to say I have the feeling someone saw my post and bought the agassizzi because they have been there 2 weeks or more and when I made this post they sold the next day...
Hey guys I stopped by the hidden reef today. They have very few of their apistogramma left, BUT there is a beautiful male apisto agassizzi. Just wanted you to let you know. Stop by the hidden reef and get it! I can't or i would, no room currently.
