All others seem to have red under the eye....but the runt doesn't....Hope your "runt" is a girl
ps.....anubias and java fern attached to driftwood are easy to look after.....I like real plants....;)
Time will tell!!!
Gerald maybe correct ?
and I think he is!!!
Runt maybe female ?
Blue in dorsal maybe a female trait?
I suggest any fish without a spade tail is female....;)
Love to see these mature and in breeding dress!
GOOD LUCK!
Lots of people who think they have A viejita actually have A macmasteri
Does anyone have the real deal???....or are they just too hard to collect!
Photos Please!
Viejo and Ted have picked it!
The fine red hairs are worms.....camellanus worms
Best treated with a product called levimsole.....it doesn't kill the worms
It paralyses them and the fall out....the substrate needs to be vacuumed to remove the stunned worms
In Australia we use a pig...
Did you have a look at the link I provided?
You will have to scroll down to see image.....don't worry about text
I'd link direct to image for you but that upset some last time I did
You could go to www.fishbase.org and search for viejita

Have a look at this forum....image of a real vijeta posted....once you know what real vijeta looks like...
It's easy to tell ....;)
I'd say.....No
Wrong body shape and with female borelli the lateral line stripe has a zig-zag pattern
Have a look on goggle....I'd post a photo but have got into strife posting other peoples images before....so....in your court
Note!
I wouldn't try to maintain a fully grown pair of Apistos in a 5 gallon tank.....however
You could keep sexes separated and just use the tank for breeding
However ....whilst this may work to reproduce fish....it will rob you of the pleasure of watching them interact with each other then...
:)
In my opinion....5 gallons isn't too small to breed some apistos.....given certain parameters
I've breed borelli/trifasciata in very small tanks......15 liters
BUT....they were a compatible pairs....they weren't fully grown.....and I did remove parents to another tank once babies were a...
In my experience...soft water don't last long in hard water
Why?
Do their kidneys pack it in or is it simply bacteria ( good & bad) love alkaline water and this gets them
What's the science?
Endlers natural habitat is hard alkaline water....some brackish
I find they are prone to shimmies if not kept in water with high conductivity
But I'm talking about real Endlers.....not Endlers guppy hybrids often sold as Endlers
I like Clown (rocket) Killies as dithers.....they tend to hang...
