Yes there are dwarf pikes available on regular basis like crenicichla regani, crenicichla notophthalmus, crenicichla compressiceps. Very beautiful species and very interesting behavior and relative small. However, i advice you not trying to keep them unless you have lots of experience with this...
Hi Giacomo. Welcome here. Nice to have apisto hobbyist out of italy here. In other european countries like holland, germany, france apisto species are available. Maybe you can ask your local fish store to get some out of this countries. Especially Germany has some pro apisto breeders/distributors.
Nice indeed and i wish you luck. But why boiled oak leaves? my experience is that boiled leaves last less time. I use leaves that are just rinsed and they last much longer and i never got parasites or something like that..
Nevertheless, nice pics! F.e. rule by seeing shrimp in a heavily planted tank is what you see is about 5% of the total amount. With visible fry of shy fish, my own experience is that you can multiplie with 2 - 3. I hope with you. Alway nice to discover the non-expected.
Hi Jason, you are right in your last message. The footprint of the tank is in most cases for Apisto's more important than height, which is less important. And yes, you have to be careful introducing new tanks to your wife. I know all aspects, but nowadays i have several tanks in my own fishbarn...
Welcome Natalie. RO water pure is dead water. You have to mix with tapwater and/or filter the water over peat moss for a while. RO water is pH neutral and soft. To get it acid the peat moss will help. So 2 things: the hardness vs soft and acid vs alkalic (dont know this is the good english...
I almost all my tanks i have cherry shrimp. Of course they eat young shrimp, but the only dwarfs hunting grown up shrimp are my F1 ramirezi;s. None of my apisto's and even not my wild caught rami's hunt grown up shrimp. At least, i never saw it. I consider young shrimp as good life food.
Very nice lists! Little jealous at the list of Mike because of the Rubrolineata's. My Rubro's past out all of the group and i mstill don't know why.
I got:
A. Amapá
A. Gossei
A. biteaniata
A. Barlowi (white form)
A. Melgar (Sp Nanay....wrongly named by Romer)
M. Ramirezi
M. Altispinosa...
I don't even try anymore to feed my apisto's something else then frozen and live food. I think "convenience" must not be leading, but what's good for your fish.
My personal opinion 10 gal is way to small for apisto's. Just for a little while (quarantaine/juveniles) it's possible, but grown out apisto's need more space.
