I am referring to pelvachromis pulcher when I say ‘Kribs’. Most pelvachromis pulcher you see online or LFSs in my area have the red belly. Please see the image below to see the difference I’m speaking of including females with the purple belly instead of red...
Most female Kribs I see in LFSs have the red belly, but I see some online with purple bellies. Are these a different species of Kribs, or perhaps the same but from different locations in the wild? I’ve bred Kribs in the past with the red bellies, but would love to find the purple.
I will try to stack them higher and get more shells. Will stacking them higher make it hard for Calvus to use them (assuming the openings will get smaller)? I’ll be ordering more shells too. I have 25 in there now, and it’s just a male and his 4 growing juveniles. The female got lodged into a...
@MacZ if you don’t mind me asking your opinion once more…what are your thoughts on keeping a single Brichardi and a single Calvus with J. Transcriptus? Could these 2 single species also work with J. Transcriptus and Multis together? Or perhaps 1 single species with both? Your advice is appreciated.
Oh of course…the 10 Discus and hundreds of shrimp were the dead giveaway. My point was that I’ve seen very different experiences with these fish, with that just being one example. Totally understand tank size makes all the difference.
Thank you both for the replies. I’ve been seeing very mixed messages on these fish. However, from those who have had experience keeping them, I see more accounts like this:

I have a 30 gallon aquarium (36” x 12” x 16”) with 1 Crenicichla Compressiceps (just under 2”) and 10 Serpae Tetra. I am wondering if there are any suggestions for 1 additional centerpiece type fish that I can add to this setup. I understand additional dwarf pike are out of the question. Will...
Thank you for the reply and additional information. I put this part (above) with your reference to Altolamprologus thinking this would be that predator.
I’ll do some thinking on if I’d like to go with the Multis/Transcriptus or Calvus/Transcriptus. As much as I want a true biotope setup, the...
Wow, thank you very much for taking the time to provide this detailed response. The intensity of theses species’ aggression was not mentioned in a lot of the species profiles I watched from breeders on YouTube. Although, there were a lot of species only tanks.
Would this exclude putting the...
I’m going to be rescaping my 75 gallon in the near future for a Lake Tanganyikan setup, and was wondering from the experts how many different species I could successfully keep together. I will for sure have Neolamprologus Multifasciatus since I have 5 in another tank. The few others below are my...
I’m hoping to get some advice to help get my borelli pair to spawn. They are in a 15 gallon aquarium with 3 Otocinclus cats. Temp is about 80 degrees Fahrenheit, and I feed mostly frozen brine shrimp, along with New Life Spectrum flakes less frequently. Ph is 7.5. This female did spawn with...
I picked up my male and female A. borellii yesterday. Any idea at what size they can begin to spawn? The female is about 1”, with the male a little larger.
