    FS: Alcolapia alcalicus

If you ever wanted this species -- I started a $1 auction on Aquabid a few days back. The auction will close on Saturday and the highest bid is currently at $8.50 per fish. This might be your opportunity to get this rare species at low price.

    Steatocranus sp. Red Eye

I was worrying too early: today I spotted a group of free swimmers in one of my Red Eye tanks. I still have no clue as to why the adults took a one-year timeout and what triggered this most recent spawn.

    Attaching JPG photos

Ted, did you talk to Troy Veltrop yet? He's a computer/website guy who has worked with fishforums and retailers before. He visits this forum occasionally, but I can't remember his alias. Janos

    West African/South American/Asian Fish Order

Jeff, we've already talked about what I want; just keep me in the loop. Any idea what the Tilapia sp. might be? Janos

    Congochromis sabinae Parameters

I have had two failed attempts at sabinae and am currently trying for a third time. I agree with everything that Jeff set and have my tank set up that way. In addition, I'm using some peat moss in the external filter (Aquaclear). The male was harassing the female and I had to separate them for...

    Tilapia deckerti

I finally had the time to shoot and upload a video of the Tilapia deckerti from Lake Ejagham that we discussed a while back (http://http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pdd5jOj6_ek). The quality of the video isn't great and doesn't do the fish justice but it gives you an idea of how the juvies (less...

    Steatocranus sp. Red Eye

A couple of years back, when Toying briought them in for the first time, I got myself a dozen Red Eye and soon they started spawning like clockwork for one year. I passed several groups on to other hobbyists and ketp the breeding group and some of the F1 for myself. Then, in my second year, they...

    Pelvicachromis taeniatus Njanje

My Njanje never showed this behavior. As Gordon was saying, my wild-caught Njanje are the parents of what he has. For a while they were spawning like clockwork, but I didn't have any success lately. Perhaps they are getting too old? I should probably try to get a pair out of the few remaining...

    WTB: female Congochromis dimidiatus

I got a pair of them from Toyin a while back but the female died. Does anyone have a spare female to sell or trade? Shipping to Lincoln, NE 68516. Thanks.

    P. taeniatus Muyuka

Ted, just moving this thread up again. Did you hear back from Toyin?

    Steatocranus irvinei

The F1 juvies have a good size for shipping. I sell them to forum members for a good price. I will be out of the country until mid February. When I'm back, I will also list them on Aquabid.

    Tilapia tholloni spawned

The juvies from the first batch are all spoken for. I have another group growing out; they should be ready to go in a few weeks. PM if interested.

    Tilapia tholloni spawned

juvie give away If any forum members is interested in trying the tholloni, the fish from the first spawn are ready to go. I don't mind shipping but would prefer waiting for warmer weather. All I'd ask for is a a few $$ per fish plus shipping. Pick up is possible also, in fact preferred. I'll be...

    P. taeniatus Muyuka

Ted, please let us know what you find out. If it's Muyuka (from another part in Cameroon), that would be an interesting fish to have. Janos

    P. taeniatus Muyuka

A friend of mine pointed out to me that Toyin has Pelvicachromis taeniatus Muyuka on his stock list. I checked and he's right. According to an ealier discussion in this forum, the muyuka morph is extinct in the wild. Does anyone have an idea what Toyin has and where he got it from?

    Good dither fish?

Hi Dave, welcome to the forum. I use tetras from West Africa as dither, but only because I like to stick with fish from that region. I'm sure there are more effective and cheaper dithers out there. I've kept signatus a while back. Yes, they were very aggressive.

    T. joka

Based on Jeff's comments and a couple of emails from Steve T., I decided to pull the eggs and hatch them in a tumbler. I think it was the right decision. A few eggs were fungused but I have a decent number of eggs that are doing well, with wrigglers hatching.

    T. joka

Sounds like you are waiting until they are free swimming or do you pull the eggs and hatch them in a tumbler?
  19. N

    T. joka

Jeff, how many days does it take for them to hatch?

    T. joka

I am baby sitting a group of Tilapia joka for Steve Thornton until he returns to Kansas in 1 1/2 years. Today I noticed that one of the pairs has spawned. I remember Steve telling me that joka are bad parents, but so far the female (and to some extent the male) is doing a good job defending the...
