I will never again use blackworms

I used to keep mine in the fridge until I was told that they live longer if you set them up in an unheated tank feed on algae wafers on top of large daily water changes which worked because I was buying a half pound at a time. I never had a problem before but whatever this last batch was...

I will never again use blackworms

It is definitely disappointing. I was keeping keeping the worms in a 10 gallon with a sponge filter on the cellar floor where the temp was between 55 and 60 with daily water changes of 60 percent. False security I guess. I'll look into some grindle worms.

    barebottom tanks

I use tahitian moon in all but a few tanks the others have play sand in them and have no trouble maintaining a low ph. I have a group of T. Candidi in with tahitian moon and B. Opercularis with the playsand, the ph in both tanks is a consistant 6.0. I only use peat, oak leaves, ro and indian...

I will never again use blackworms

I always fed my stubborn fish blackworms lightly a couple times a week to help with conditioning until now. I have lost so many fish this last week it's unreal and what of the fish that didn't get blackworms? They are thriving and some are ready to spawn. All of the fish died of the same thing...

    Fish from freshwaterfishfan

I wasn't sure where to post this, but I would like to let everybody know that Steve is a great guy to deal with. His fish are always healthy and packed perfectly. I definitely look forward to ordering from him again. Thanks again Steve.

I just wanna breed them Tripple reds

They should do fine in your tap water. If it's just a breeding tank then you will do fine with a few caves most of us use coconut shells and some java moss. If you want something nicer then you can add driftwood and different plants, but you need the caves either way. After that it's just a...

Wild Apistos From Brazil - Help with ID please

The second fish is definitely nice the double spot is probably the key to identifying it. I don't know how many of them you have but if you decide to hang on to some and have a pair left over please let me know. If those are bad pics it may be time for me to hang up my camera.

Wild Apistos From Brazil - Help with ID please

The fish in the second pic looks pulchra'ish' and the third pic looks like meinkeni, but I'm probably wrong I'm still working on my id skills.

Thanks for sharing Tom. It's a nice treat for a fan of characidium and 'nano' tanks and fish.

    Guess what I just found!!!

Eggs are gone and she is still protecting the nest site, but I don't see any wigglers so I'm not sure what happened.

    I'm Addicted!

Yes baenschi are in the group and yes it is true unless you are extremely lucky and get a trio to work. 9 times out of 10 any extra males or females become targets for the bonded pair and usually don't survive long.

    Guess what I just found!!!

Well I just siphoned out a majority of the eggs that were kicked out and covered with fungus, but she is still aggressively guarding the rest. I would be happy if this was a viable spawn but I would much rather have spawns from 3 females instead of 2.

    I'm Addicted!

Nope, any nijsseni types do best in pairs anything more is asking for trouble.

    Guess what I just found!!!

It was definitely a surprise and they have the right color to be viable. I really don't know how to feel about the whole thing, one on hand I got my first spawn, but on the other if the eggs are viable I lost a female. Still pretty cool though.

Panduro do best in pairs so you will want to trade the extra males for something else.

    Guess what I just found!!!

I just found one of my biotoecus opercularis guarding a large clutch of eggs! What makes it really odd is that both of the fish I have are female and the eggs have the nice creamy tan color of viable eggs. I guess they weren't waiting for it to warm up enough for the male to get here.

    Cichlid Atlas vol 1

I found a guy on aquabid claiming to have a bunch of the english translation in storage. He's selling them for 100.00 ea. Not sure if it's a reasonable price, but who knows when it will be in print again. I did contact him and I'm waiting for some kind of confirmation to his claim.

    First Pair of Apistos!!

Yes it is mainly males that get the 'bristles' and sometimes the odd female will get them but fewer in number.

    Question Extravaganza

I started using run off from my roof over the summer, it's probably the quickest way to accumulate large quantities of soft water. We had a storm in july that had 4 barrels over flowing after about 15 minutes, too bad it gets used up almost as quickly.
