I'm not trying to gang up on anyone, but this is a good point. With
all of the unexplored areas in South America not one person can say for 100% what is or is not swimming in the waters there. Sp. Tapajos could have been found in a little creek that you unknowingly overlooked and possibly just...
I have a few siblings of your Panduro and a store has the very last brood from the parents. There is a huge mix of females with different markings. My female shows a typical pattern and my male along with the others have quite spectacular coloring and a pattern of 3 stripes in the caudal fin...
I saw C. Guentheri at the store the other day. I was going to get a pair but they only had a male left. We sometimes get something besides Kribs here but not often.
Last night I noticed that my female was alot thinner than usual and spending alot of time in the cave no today the female is out and about and the male is in the cave only popping out to eat and chase the female off. Everybody has heard the stories of males mouthbrooding fry but what are the...
So far the males are totally preoccupied with trying to spawn and pay no attention to each other. The tank is decorated with 5 coconut caves, rock piles of rocks, driftwood and alot of java moss.
They are alone now, I had a bristlenose in there but the beat the tar out of it. The males are trying their butts off to get the females to spawn and I can't figure out why the females won't budge.
You have Multicolor too don't you Steve?
I was surprised by the loss too, I have been feeding blackworms and keeping them housed the same way for years with no problems. My losses can be attributed only to whatever the worms were carrying. I may in the future try them again but only after being treated for bacteria. For now I rely on...
Does anyone here have any experience with breeding these fish that can give me a few pointers? From what I've heard the are not as easy to breed as my Nicholsi and a lot of people have trouble with them. My females have looked like they are ready to explode but won't spawn. I am currently...
Inbreeding or linebreeding is a common when developing and stabilizing color forms such as triple red or orange flash. Although you do get some funky fish here and there, cichlids are pretty resiliant when it comes to linebreeding
Those do sound nice. I'll have to look though the lists at my lfs, I know they are getting ready to do German, Cech and wild Brazilian order in the next month
They are in a 55 gallon right now which is a ton of space for them at this time( they are just under 2 inches) I am picking up 2 or 3 more this weekend. I will also be getting lemon tetras, corydoras ornatus and a couple L134s. Now I just need to find an apisto from the area.
My daughter won 3 geophagus redhead topajos in a childrens raffle at an auction yesterday and would like to make a biotope. What tetras, cories, dwarves and plecos are found in that area? Any help would be great and greatly appreciated by my daughter.
I've watched the little buggers dessimate one of my hygro kompact. They seem to gather, munch and move on. I was able to remove a good number of them and did a quick dip in bleachwater, a short soak in saltwater and then thouroughly rinsed the plant.
