    Spawning question

In all my years keeping A. atahualpa, I have never witnessed the actual spawning action. The holes on my caves (inverted clay flower pots with a hole in the bottom) is probably not large enough for the male to get into; so the idea that he "crop dusts" her eggs is plausible. My male resides...

    A agassizi Blue

I've never had much luck at keeping more than one pair or M/F/F trio of any variety of 'agassizi' in a tank 48" x 18" footprint, and that is with a LOT of cover. I don't know why, but they just seem to be more overly aggressive for me. I think you could try two pair of the blue agassizis if...

    My first dslr photo

Nice. Looks like you have your "F-stop" set pretty low (which allows more light in but makes things blurrier except on the focus points). I've found that when my F-stop values are below 7, even a fish looking diagonally at me can be blurry in the back (or front if I focus on the center)...

    P. taeniatus "Moliwe"

Alder cones -- although, unless you have a lot of them, you aren't going to make a huge dent in the pH or hardness of the water. Personally, I'd recommend a section of panty hose tied off on two ends filled with peat moss placed directly into the tank. One handful of peat moss per 20 gallons...

Proposed Picture of the Month Rules

Hopefully, folks will resort to cleaning their glass rather than removing stains via photoshopping. :)

    Aquarium photography

I'm not sure about the 75mm to 300mm lense, but I take all my photos using an 18mm - 135mm lens with the lens extended to the 135 range, standing about six to 12 inches away from the glass. When I use a flash, I tilt the camera down at an angle (camera mounted flash) to minimize the flash...

    The new guy

Welcome! I faced the same ordeal with frogs and lizards...it was them or the wife. The wife knows how to cook, so it was an easy decision. I'd love to see some photos of your fish room. Hope you enjoy your time here. Brian

Proposed Picture of the Month Rules

Oh, good point. We may set a theme for each month. Generally, it will be dwarf cichlids, but, it may be other things.
