"Enough" depends on what you want. Swords tend to grow faster with more light, but if you're getting unwanted algae with the the amount of light you're throwing, you need to decrease the light or add CO2. I wouldn't recommend 12 hours of light. It isn't needed, and is contributing to your problem.
I don't think the feeding is an issue at all. The peak PAR reading for the Biocube vastly exceeds what is needed for a low tech tank. Also, you're running lights more or less constantly. I would personally kill the moonlight cycle and reduce your peak intensity by half, and then see how it does...
That makes more sense. OK so I would guess your TDS is at least 100, which is OK, but you either have buffers or a base in there holding your pH up. Cutting with RO would likely help. Organics will help more. Peat's really the most effective, but I try to avoid using that if other solutions...
I have the HM Digital COM-100, which works well. If I had to buy again I’d probably get the Hanna combo meter, since it also does pH, and in a wider range (and easier to read format) than my test kits.
Update: Today there are fry! Not many, but it's the first successful spawn. Obviously, there are not many data points, but the conditions in this case were about pH 7.1, TDS 86. I don't know if pH affects the hatch rate, but I will continue to water change with peat-treated water, which can get...
You may have already thought of these things, but there are also ways to either reduce the waste water or reuse it. I also try to reduce waste and avoid the use of non-renewables. They all take some effort, so the right solution depends on your situation. Rainwater's a great idea if you can do it.
The conversion factor many use for freshwater is 0.64, so a TDS of 345 uS ~ 221 ppm TDS.
You could try it with trifasciata, but some have had better luck with agassizzii at lower TDS (based on other threads in this forum).
Just try feeding it to them and see how much they eat in a 10-min period. That will be your answer. Also, if you collect once and replace the sieve, newly hatched shrimp will keep swimming to the center, so you can keep harvesting until that stops.
