Apistogramma Agassizii Gold Blaze breeding project

Pretty good plan, good that from the outset you recognize the need for multiple tanks. The first week or 2 the fry are free swimming they might benefit from some smaller foods like micro works etc. but they should take BBS very early... trying to remember what I did for my last spawn.... think...

Apistogramma Agassizii Gold Blaze breeding project

Tank looks nice, maybe too nice for a breeding tank I say that as maybe with so many hiding spots it could be difficult to catch fish ie the dad when he needs to be removed or fry when they need to go to a grow out tank, it might just take a little longer to catch them that's all. But go with...

Apistogramma agassizii - Aquasoil or sand?

Hi Oslor, Welcome to the forum. I have Apistogramma Agassizii and in their tank the substrate is about 3cm mix of dirty, seachem fluorite, osmicote pellets and root tabs with a 3-4cm cap of sand. As mentioned they like to sift the sand at times so I like to use sand of top to allow them to do...

    Apistogramma Agassizii grow out

Mike, Yukondog - thank you for your advise Wow these guys are like rabbits! So 2 days ago when i initially posted a pair had spawned between some rocks - I can not actually see if there are eggs, and today that female is not guarding the area as closely, so possible the eggs are gone already...

    Apistogramma Agassizii grow out

Hi All, I have been growing out some Apistogramma Agassizii they are about 4 months old now. I had maybe 30 in a bear bottom 20gal grow out tank with some moss covered drift wood. About a month ago (when they were ~3 months old) I moved 13 of the larger ones to a new 20gal tank. The new tank...

NEED HELP. My apistogramma looks bad today

Oh sorry to hear that :( When I bring home fish and quarantine them I usually give a treatment of Pimafix and Melafix (at the same time) as soon as I get them. Like I said its a precaution I do this with tetras, apistos, rams, what ever the fish are. I started doing this because a while...

NEED HELP. My apistogramma looks bad today

I have not had this occur before so can not talk from experience. But API General Cure is often mentioned as a treatment for internal worms or parasites. When I quarantine I often use API Pimafix (anti fungal) and Melafix (anti bacterial) as a precaution when bring home new fish.

I have eggs! a. cacatuoides, first spawn

I had a similar experience with a pair of Agassizii who bread in the quarantine tank, it took them a few tries but I did in the end get a successful spawn which are now in a grow out tank. :) I highly recommend baby brine shrip (BBS) as food for fry. Hatching your own is well worth the effort.

How do Wean fry off live bbs?

I have also had some luck crushing pellets into very fine crumbs, almost dust, I try to introduce it to my fry from around 8-10 weeks initially they will eat it when its in the water column but not off the bottom so use it sparingly when you first do it as you will need to siphon out any excess...

    Fry meal plan!

Hi Experts, I have Apistogramma Agassizii fry which are about 3 weeks old. Initially I was feeding micro worms for say the first week, then a mix of micro worms and BBS, and now predominantly BBS twice a day. I'm wondering: 1) what is best to feed them at this age? 2) and is there an...

Minimum Tank Size for 1 Dwarfcichlid

The smallest I have had a pair of Apistogramma Agassizii in was a 8 gallon / 30 liter that was for a quarantine tank. I think for even 1 male i would not go smaller than this and you would want to decorate it well so there are multiple points of interest for him - if that makes sense. You could...

    New Apistogramma Agassizii pair

Sad news :( This morning I found my female Apistogramma Agassizii dead and upside down on the bottom of the tank..... So sad because the parents were seeming to do so well and this was the first successful spawn. Male was still in the tank but there was no aggression towards her, not sure how...

    Breeding ages

Hi, From the photos they appear to be of reasonable size suitable for breeding. Others may have a better idea. Are there hiding spots / caves etc. in the tank to serve as suitable spawning sites? //Andy

bitaeniatas all around (sorry, might be image heavy)

Hi rasmasW, Firstly the new tank looks great, seems very natural I'm sure the pair in there with their new fry are very happy! I'm no expert on bitaeniatas nor on ID of apisto species but from you description and also does kind of sound like male / pair behavior Is this the female that has...
