Well - i was 'talking' to someone abut this on another forum and he said that most classified erythrurus as a form of trifs and it was only recently that glasser started to reclassify them as erythrurus again - so in that sense they might all be triffs despite the colour differences.
I suspect not - the pictures on glasser website seems quite different. This is glasser picture:
(link to glasser which compares these to triffs:

And my picture from the previous page:
I also no longer think they are...
Well I really would prefer the D39's.
They are kind of amusing in several ways - first the frys are quite large and free swimming already. I *think* they hatched a week ago and went 'free swimming' only 4 days ago but they can already swim to near the top of the aquarium. The orange tetra i...
They sent me this picture of a young male (approx 2 inches); which seems to be a different ?form? ?species? then the ones i have.
This one look really close to the ones on Tom's website:
https://www.tomc.no/fish.aspx?fishIndexID=2657&gruppeID=1
And this is not a great picture of my male...
Oh well - either she didn't spawn or the spawn was not successful. As a consolation prize (pretty weak consolation if you ask me):
Hum. Hopefully the d39 will spawn eventually.
Plants can be annoying:
front and back - the aquarium is quite dark because the top is covered with frogbits despite the strong light. I have no clue who is in there anymore i can't see a bloody thing.
Once along time ago in another life it looked a little like this:
One of these years i...
For naive sob like myself can you explain what you mean by split bar. When I look at the species description on Mike's site it seems the split bar are the vertical lines that split mid way down forming upside down trees but when i look at the fishes i see female with bars and the male without...
So i moved the a. ladisalo to the 15 as mentioned above because they were a *lot* older but today i noticed one of the d39 females has almost certainly spawned. The aquarium is a 65 with an assortment of pencil fishes a few otto 5 d39 (2 m 2 f 1 ?? - yea after 1.5 year i still can't tell if the...
I've not kept atahualpas but i have kept morse code with other species. morse code behave much like ember tetra and are of similar size when fully grown - i would say they are a little higher in the water column then ember. So if you want to test you could try some embers ;)
Enigmatochromis lucanusi might work - it is a west african fish that prefers very soft water. I have a pair in the 10 which is a bit small for them - but the pair i ahve never squabbled much - but others have said they will fight like cat and dogs. I personally believe they need a larger...
They are one of the more aggressive species in regards to m/f squabbles. For a 15 borelli will work as well as pucallpaensis (wetspot as a few wc ones); i highly recommend pucallpaensis you can read about them here:

This is a 2 1/2 to 3 1/2 year old a. ladisalo; i moved him with the female i think he paired with to a 15 in hope they will breed (they were in a 40b with some other females).
Yes i 'spoke' to someone on another forum who is far more knowledgeable these are likely a marginatus variant - he thinks they were previously known as 'picturatus' - i found this picture on a generman website:
https://www.aqualog.de/en/lexikon/nannostomus-marginatus-4/
Mine has a more full...
