    A. ortegai fry care help

Eventually she will lay eggs again - i would think 2 weeks is too short a period .... definitely need to try to hatch that bbs when you see frys and feed them. btw bbs only last a couple of days before you have to rehatch them (unless you keep them somewhere cold).

Is RO really necessary for Apistogramma baenschi, or can I make this work without it?

That is the first time i ever heard that - you will miss out i suppose but since you are creating an extremely stressful environment it is hard for me to imagine your fishes would be better off experiencing the extreme stress of a hopeless task of guarding eggs/frys. Also you are being...

    A. ortegai fry care help

About 48 hours after the frys are free swimming start feeding them bbs ;) Not sure which species of whiptail you have but the ones i have have enough of an egg sack to allow them to feed for close to 5 days without external food: Anyway the normal stage for cichild frys is wriggler (eggs...

If you dont' want to breed save everyone a lot of stress and just get a male.

Is RO really necessary for Apistogramma baenschi, or can I make this work without it?

You water is pretty hard and it is hte hardness you need to focus on and not the actual ph. My tap water is gh 6 kh 3 so softer then yours and i could not breed quite a few fishes (my honglosi would lay eggs like clock work - 2 females but non hatched - my rams could on occasion get a few eggs...

    Stocking for 20 gallon

Epiplatys annulatus - i've kept them but not with apisto - they seem a bit fragile and didn't particularly stay near the top but no clue if they would go after frys.

    Stocking for 20 gallon

Well there are a couple of tetra that stay near the top - like humming bird (kind of expensive and not esp pretty); ruby tetra don't hang near the top per sey but are quite small - in truth i'm not sure if they would go after the frys. Not a tetra but kubotai rasbora will stay in the upper 1/5...

    Stocking for 20 gallon

It is best to leave the frys with the mother. She has so much to teach them while they are still young....

Adding a female for my male?

No - and there are different level of aggression from different species. nijjensi are more or less pair forming in the aquarium. They are also relatively easy to keep but require acidic water with hardness below around 80 tds to breed. This is an old male i had: Also I'm finding a. sp...

Adding a female for my male?

macs are not pair forming any suitable female that wonders into the male territory is fair game; the only catch is that if he will be aggressive towards her is she is not interested in breeding and this might be why your previous female 'passed away'.

    Apistogramma Cacatuoides Orange Flash Females

Just a heads up 'orange flash' is a made up name not a species name so you will probably want to view the adult male/female to make sure that person's 'orange flash' matches what you think 'orange flash' represents. After all a cockatoo is a cockatoo no matter what name you put on it to...

Id species (sold as Apistogramma sp. "Ipiranga")

I guess but some behave differently then others.... Looks like she only had 9 to 11 frys (which is similar to last 2 times); like the wolli she keeps them on the sponge filter (food i suppose) and she scoots off when i feed them bbs via a pipette - This is very different to the kribs which...

Id species (sold as Apistogramma sp. "Ipiranga")

btw this is the aquarium - it is a 65 - 48 long and 16 wide (inches); unfortunately it is taken from the not so dense area on the right while the fishes mostly stay on the left in front of the plant line which is approx 1/2 inch next to the glass: I'm not sure why almost nothing hangs ou on the...

Id species (sold as Apistogramma sp. "Ipiranga")

2 years late just some updated pictures since my female spawned again; a little surprise since their total age is probably around 3 years: Male without flash: Flash to bring out some colour - i normally use a flash light when i want to see in the aquarium: He is a lot more purple then the...

Adding a single a. borelli to a community aquarium

But doesn't that stuff dissipate if the water sits out over night and then the ph drop to a more natural level ?

Adding a single a. borelli to a community aquarium

Not a good idea for several reasons. First you are way over stocking. I woudl reduce the venz cory to 10 or 12 and get rid of the bn. I'm rather confused by your ph vs the water hardness which seems low. Either i don't understand the numbers or i would expect the ph to be around 6.5. A single...
