    If your cheap ph meter's display happens to have a bnc port, you could by a decent glass electrode and re use the display.

    Maybe i'm wrong but i felt like @Mazan's question went in the direction whether leaf litter can protect the PH from collapsing. Indeed it's said that if it's not a sterile tank but a tank with mulm / leaf litter / detritus which gives home for bacteria those bacteria somewhat keep the PH stable...

    I can't find the source right now, i read it in a magazine, that they discovered a special sticky organ in the mouths/gills of Apistogramma (maybe in other geophagines too) where microbic food and fats stick to when sifting sand. Maybe someone here knows more.

    hi, the largest i personally ever had were A. barlowi. A. kullanderi is large (but i think they might not be part of the Apistogramma genus anymore in the future). Why are you specifically looking for large Apistos? I've seen stunningly large Ivanacara adoketa at my local fish store.
