I dint know to be honest, the shop was bringing a lot of fish from Colombia at that time so they may have been wild caught, I don't think I asked though. I probably had too many males maybe. I had 10 or 12 fish to start with, but they bad so I ended up with more.
That’s strange, mine were always hungry and even used to bite my arms when I was doing anything in the tank, presumably they thought the little hairs were worms. The extreme aggression to other fishes didn’t happen until I’d had them about a year I think..

I don’t really have that much experience with pike cichlids, only with one species of Wallaciia, however I did look into the dwarf species a lot when I first got mine and I don’t think it’s a Wallaciia and certainly not nothopthalmus, probably it’s one of the larger species.
I would have preferred the morse codes or the Trochilocharax, but as they never arrived I am tempted to get some of the orange ones IF they turn up here (supposed to next week…). I have ruby tetras with my A. bitaeniata, they haven’t been eaten…
